SOLD: 2014 Parkliner for sale $17,500
2014 16' Parkliner | Cookeville, TN | Fiberglass RV's For Sale
We are listing our 6 month old Parkliner for sale (add link above) Send me a message if your interested.
We live in middle Tennessee. Its kept under our carport, non smoking. Excellent condition. Comes with standard features plus marine grade flush toilet, 3 way fridge, 3 way hot water heater, a/c, screen door, deadbolt lock, additional receptacle, Maxx Air Fan, cable ready, small awning on dinette side, undermount radio/cd player, 19 inch TV/DVD player, high arch faucet, custom shades, extra shelf and more.
You can learn more about them at their website ParkLiner Fiberglass Ultralight Travel Trailers - – Take me somewhere fun! ™
To answer why we are selling our Parkliner, we took it to the beach in August (first mistake). It was 100-105 degrees. The a/c cooled the camper down to 87, so I guess that wasn't too bad considering. It does cool just fine in 90 temps. However, we want a unit with more powerful a/c so we can go the beach in the future and not worry about the heat. Its more than fine for camping otherwise which is why we hesitated listing it at all. We do like the camper quite a bit. But we also like to go to the beach.

What does your Parkliner have, a 5000 BTU 'window' type air unit? According to Parkliner's website, a rooftop Dometic A/C is an available option. This suggests that the roof will withstand the weight. So, have you looked at having one installed? Any RV place can install a roof A/C in place of a vent (might cost a thousand bucks or a little more, I'd guess). A 8000 or 9000 BTU would probably do great; a 13,500 could freeze you out in no time.

We have thought about that as well, not quite that simple. The design on the roof is sort of scooped in, so would take some building up to install a roof a/c up there properly. The maker quoted us a HUGE cost to do that for us. Even though they have changed their a/c from the side to the roof just months after we purchased it...even though it is still under warranty.
All that to say, its still a great camper if you don't camp at the beach in August!
We camped using the a/c here in Tennessee and it cools fine, just needs more power for the 100 degree temps we had.

I would be bummed if I bought a trailer and the AC didn't cool a small area in 100 degrees.

I wish you luck! Yeah the 5k ac unit isn't great. I have thought about swapping it out for the 8k unit I have that has the same footprint as the 5k. I am mainly just happy to have it remove the humidity from the air and have a fan blowing down on me when I sleep. I don't like the look of the rooftop units....my ParkLiner is much sleeker looking without that up top.

Didn't someone on an earlier ParkLiner post explain their way through a step-by-step DIY upgrade to an 8,000 replacement cabinet A/C unit they had done? Seemed like the dimensions all worked out, the only problem was physically accessing the tight fit around the somewhat hidden electrical receptacle. Anyone else remember that, or did I dream it up? (I'm never good at finding what I think I remember with the forum "Search" tool.) Then I think they still used a floor fan to help circulate the cooled A/C air coming out near the floor up higher into the cabin. If that was all a dream, it was a good one!

Sorry to continue the thread drift, especially on a for sale post but I will throw in my dos centavos anyway. I installed a replacement 5K A/C unit in the side of my Scamp 16 and was completely underwhelmed. I took it back and purchased a 6K and was much happier. To help air flow around the unit I installed an auxiliary 12V automotive radiator fan (<$30 total) behind it to get the hot exhaust out and away from the A/C. It worked great last year during a week at a Florida beach the end of May (mid-upper 90’s) and I expect it would work fine during hotter conditions. I do not know if something like this would work on a Parkliner or not. Personally I would LOVE to purchase Gretchen’s pre-roof A/C Parkliner and find out, but I am only ONE payment away from owning my Scamp outright.

Sorry to hear you're selling already Gretchen. We've had some challenges with our Parkliner, but are sticking with it. We like going to the beach too, but as former tenters, are used to no AC!
Best of luck to you guys!
Frank

Gretchen, If there is still a chance you might decide to keep your ParkLiner if you can get your A/C upgraded to a higher capacity roof unit, you might want try checking with a reputable fiberglass boat repair shop (should be several located around the many lakes in Tennessee) and see what they would charge you to install a roof-mount A/C unit if you purchase the unit you want and deliver it and the camper to them to install. Most good boat fiberglass repair technicians can work wonders. Some might view it as a fun diversion and challenge from the normal "log rammed through the bow" stuff they see. And Winter is usually a down time for many shops, so it could be a pretty fast turn-around, too. Just a thought....
