I was lucky enough to trade my 1975 Prowler for a 1999 Burro so I do not need the Trails West that I bought about 3 weeks ago.
If you go to the album and click on page 7 and then click on trails west you will see my trailer. The last 7 pics are of the one that I bought.
I paid $2000.00 for it and drove 800 miles round trip to pick it up. The window on the right side was in bad shape and it has been rebuilt. The refrigerator now works very well. I think the heater works as the pilot lite stays lit. It was about 110 degrees the day I was working on it so I could not get the main burner to lite.
I have rebuilt the pop top. The wooden frame on the bottom was rotted and has been replaced. The top frame work was in good shape other than being loose from age. I removed it and glued ansd screwed the frame work together and replaced the plywood panel. There was not a screen or zipper intact in the whole canvass. The screens have been replaced and the entire canvass has been resewn.
The prior owner told me that the axel and wheels are new as well as the tires. They all look in good shape to me. The seat cushions have been redone in vinyl and are in excellent shape. The curtains are OK but need new rods. I have not checked the hand pump at the sink so I do not know if it works.
There is a fairly new propane bottle but no holder for it on the tongue.
There is silicone around the windows that the buyer can clean off as I am tired of scraping.
It needs a good cleaning and it will be ready to go. The body is in good shape and should take a good shine.
I think I have described it fairly and told you all of the negs.
I towed it with a 4 cyl Toyota PU and did not know that it was there.
I have about $2500.00 invested in it and would like to get my cost back. The hard and expensive work has been done. With a little elbow grease you will have a good looking square egg.
You can call me for more info at 760-379-8537.
Bodfish is about 45 miles east of Bakersfield Ca. or about 60 miles east of Ridgecrest Ca. and Hiway 395.
Thanks,
John Perry

Trailer: 1974 Compact II by Hunter

i've been looking at the pictures of the trials west trailer and it just seems like it is VERY similar to the compact II/hunter. i wonder if there was any relationship between the companies or the people that started them?

One might be a clone of the other, Trails West seem to combine features of both. Little history on the Trails West, so who knows..

Trails West is actually STILL in business. They make Horse Trailers. I think that is what they started doing, ventured into the fiberglass ones and got out after a short period of time. The logo is the same.

Trails West Mnfg.

I see them all the time near where I work. There is a small berg, Norco, Ca. that caters to horses, so we battle rigs everyday.

Wow Gina, I checked that site and it's shut down!

See what you did? You post a site and they can't handle the traffic!

Bad Gina......

I don't think it gets up at 6 am.

Works fine for me. Maybe it's scared of monkeys.

Wow, did you see the living quarters in the trails west horse trailers? They still make campers, they just have room for horses in them. (And they aren't fiberglass eggs.) I guess you could get one of those and have room for an entire herd of small dogs.
