Looking good

I can't remember if you've mentioned this or not, but did you follow the inspiration of the "$50 paint job" Dodge Charger guy?

Yes with some other input...lol. A guy I work with told me about painting with tremclad last year. He was an auto body guy back in the day. I'm not sure if I took it real serious until I saw the charger photos and some of the other $50 paint jobs.

So how did it go? I read *pages* of that Charger thread - kind of got sucked in

Ever since then I've been curious to hear from someone else who's tried it.

It is a great low budget option for a nice paint job. In some of the forums they went from 20 to 50 percent mineral spirits. I went with 10 percent mineral spirits added to a gloss white. After 2 coats I gave it a quick wet sand with some 400 grit paper. I put on 2 more coats and then said maybe someday Ill sand it out with 1000. On the bottom I used a rocker guard spray to give it some texture and the used a mix of flat and semi gloss black also with 10 percent mineral spirits. My garage was on the cool side so it took a little longer to dry. Now I'm going to finish the upholstry. Watched a few you tube videos on upholstry and almost half done that part

I got them from wall mart. The were scratched so they had them marked down. I think they were less than 10 dollars

Any way you could do some step by step instructions of what you did with regards to this paint job. we will be painting the outside once we get the frame back on.

Can you let us know what prep work youhad to do to get it so nice looking??

Cheers

Angry

My understanding is Tremclad and Rustoleum are identical paint products. Is that right? Here in New Jersey Home Depot sells lots of Rustoleum but I have't seen any Tremclad. I need reassurance. Should I not be at all nervous about using Rustoleum for my Scamp's roof restoration?

Roy,
Could you explain a little bit more about how you did the upholstery? It looks like vinyl or something. Looks great.

Hey Roy that looks good!! I am getting ready to try my hunter with this method. I read the thread the Charger guy did, looks Great!I am in the process of sanding down some of the old paint that was brushed on and it has a lot of brush marks. Mainly I am taking it down smooth and not always taking all of the old paint off. How much paint did it take to do yours? Did you use the small high density foam rollers? Thanks Harold

Roy, the only problem (that may NOT occur) is putting paint over old paint. Some types don't mix for instance. You may want to check out this topic, it's sounded similar to your problems.

Hey Roy did you use a primer first before you did the Tremclad?

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think Roy is going to answer you. This thread is from 2010 and Roy hasn't been active since then.

You may want to search the forum for newer threads that may have your answer.
