Screw holes through boler shell

Hi everybody! A am currently in the (slow) process of restoring a 1974 boler. The previous owner attatched a shelf above the front window I would like to remove...it's ugly, useless, and right at my head level...an accident waiting to happen! It's screwed on right through the outer fiberglass shell, so I went to Rona yesterday and picked up some j-b weld original formula steel reinforced epoxy putty. I just wanted to make sure I grabbed the right stuff, the last thing I want are 2 screw holes when I live in bc, we have some pretty serious rainfall here! Any input would be hugely appreciated. It will work. I'd check to see if the holes are not the same ones used to hold the curtain rods in place.

I've used JB Weld a lot. Trailer and around the house. Somewhere on the package it should say that it's waterproof, sandable and paintable. That's what you're looking for... it's two part, right?

The problem with the JB weld metal is that it cures very slowly and will probably run out of the holes before it cures, plus it is dark grey in color. I prefer JB Weld epoxy putty for plastic, this epoxy is a putty where you kneed the 2 parts together then press it into the hole, you have time to smooth the outside and it is also a white in color.

So far, I like yours best Donna, since it says it is for potable water tanks too. Gotta add that to my kit.

There are a bunch of different flavors of JB Weld. None are expensive, in the grand scheme of things. Pick the one that works best for your application.

When I've used the two-part Marine epoxy, I cut off two hunks of equal length and massage them into one piece... kinda like a "sausage." THAT's what I jam into the hole and scoop off the excess with a plastic blade or smooth plastic knife. All I can tell you, is it's worked for me. YMMV.

Thanks everybody! Tried it out today, Ian was right, it was a little runny, thankfully it was cookin out today and I had time to keep fanning it back into the hole. Will get that moldable stuff for future works I think. The colour, like Ian also mentioned is a pretty dark and not ideal grey, but paint is on the to do list, so not a big deal...yet

The jb weld putty that I used (the little sausage shape kind) dried to a creamy white. Worked very well to fill in the old cracked areas of my rock guard when I was repairing it.
