CASITA, 16 FT VERSUS 17 FT

Just wondering those of you that have moved up from a 16 ft Casita to a 17 ft Casita...............
Is there really that much more room in them to make much of a difference?
Would you spend the extra money to trade up again?
I am looking at the one with the twin beds in it so that I can keep beds made up and still have a table made up also. I now own a 16 ft spirit deluxe (hubby has back bed and I have side bed)
I am going to go look at the 17 foot one on Saturday if I can get off of work early enough.
Is there more storage room in the 17 ft ones??
One foot does not seem like much of a difference, but there has got to be some reason they make them only a foot bigger than the 16 foot ones.
Opinions anyone.

From reading your description, I'm thinking that you believe that the 17' will allow twin beds and at the same time, a dinette to sit at.

We own the 17' Casita Liberty that has the king or twin beds. We use the twin beds and love them. However, when the twin beds are up, there is no dinette. The twin beds take up the entire back area of the 17'... The same as when we used the king bed.. No place to sit.

You could put a table up on a post, as we do, between the two twin beds. We put the table up between the two beds to eat or play games with friends, but it comes down when we aren't using it and when we sleep.

I know there is more height in the 17' and the floor is level, no raised portion in the back.

I know for me the inside height is the big thing.
Some do not feel this matters but it is a deal breaker for me in the 16'.

I also have had a 13' and 15' Trillium and the extra 2 feet was huge.

That said the Scamp and Fiberstream I have now are the same length but the Fiberstream seems much roomier inside.

There is also the issue of the doors between the Casitas.

The 16 has the curved aircraft style door made of fiberglass,The 17 has a standard RV style flat door with an entire door jamb and screen door as a system.
This has a better seal all around and also stays that way where the fiberglass doors can "drift" in a number of ways.

I think that Ed is talking about the 17' Casita having a flat door vs. the 16' Casita having a curved door. The fit around the curved door on many trailers is poor as they age.

The biggest differences:

4.1 cu ft refrigerator vs 3.0 cu ft or less in the 16.

Full bed width (54") vs 48" in the 16. (Spirit and Freedom)

Screen door vs none in the 16.

I think there is also slightly more elbow room in shower area of the 17 ft.

We moved up from a 16 ft. to a 17 ft., mostly because my husband wanted the extra ceiling height. As Morgan says, much of that extra foot goes into the bed, and it is WELL worth it. (Even though we have the Liberty, which makes the king-size bed and/or the twin beds, we use ours like a Spirit or Freedom - with just the back bed.)

One other thing: the twin beds are too narrow for use without modification -- at least they are in my 1999 model. I have not heard that the manufacturer ever addressed this, but I have seen trailers where the twin beds were widened very nicely.

I'm also not sure (but almost positive) that there are a couple extra inches in the 17 ft. Liberty's galley (countertop). Every little bit helps...

We liked our 16 ft., but we love the 17!

THANKS EVERYONE. I decided to pass on it as right now it sounds like my Spirit has more bed space. My narrow twin bed (that I tend to almost fall out of during the night) is the same size as the twin beds in the 17 ft. I had the owner measure them. No way my hubby would be happy on that narrow bed, Hubby and I sleeping together and crawling over each other in the middle of the night is not an option.
Besides it was gonna cost me an extra 8 ro 9 thousand dollars. Just not worth it.
