Bigfoot axle

I know there has been several conversations about axles, but none of them mention the length of the axle. I am picking up a 1988 bigfoot 17 foot trailer but do not have yet. I am already planning to replace the axle. I am pretty sure it won't go up my driveway. I found a deal for an axle fairly close to where I am picking up the trailer. It is 70 inches between leaf springs and just over 7 feet, rated for 5200 lbs. I realize that it is a little over wt rated, but I plan on replacing the tires, rims as well and probably the leafs.
Thanks for any input.

I don't know anything about a BigFoot 17's axle, but I do know that axle dimensions are usually measured:
a. Face to Face (meaning the brake drum face that the wheel rests against)
b. Spring center to spring center

We just bought the same trailer you are picking up, 1988 b17. You shouldn't need to change the axle. The previous owner changed our axle to spring over. Our leafs are in good shape. 5200lb will be too heavy and will ride stiff. I would wait until you get your trailer to do anything. My bet is you won't have to get a new axle.

The Bigfoot axle from the factory was a 3500# axle. Replacing it with a 5200# axle would require new 6 lug hubs and 12 inch brake drums as well as new rims and tires.

I have a 1993 bigfoot 17foot and replaced the axle last year. It has 66 inch spring center and 84 inch face to face. The original axle was 85in long, but i went a little shorter as the tire was rubbing the wheel casing. It fits just perfect now.
