Question on winter travel w/ Scamp

Hi all,

Newbie and our new 16' Scamp is winterized and parked in a pole barn so it will be clean of snow etc. We are based in central Michigan... Brrrr.

We have a trip to work on radio tracking bats along the lower Colorado River late January through mid Feb. next year. I am assuming since RV antifreeze is in all drains, tanks and pipes we should not really use the Scamp (at least the water system) until we drive south a few days and we are below the freeze line and flush the system.

What do folks do when traveling through hard freeze areas?

How much flushing is needed to flush drinking water tank?

I am assuming we just stop at hotels until we are far enough south and in the safe zone.

Hi Bat, with the way the cold is going this year you still may have a problem along the river. Someone else will give you better info soon.
I'm from SW Mich, St Joseph and now live in the desert and the closest I want to see of snow is the frost in the freezer

We have used our Scamp unwinterized in temperatures down to around zero. We had no major issues, but I would not recommend it. The issues we had were minor; a water line froze and water would not flow to the front bathroom, and when we attempted to dump the holding tanks we found the drain valves frozen and un-moveable. If you are connected to a campground water supply, your hose will freeze when temps go below freezing.

Un-winterizing is easy. Drain everything you can easily drain, and flush for a few minutes to get rid of the rest.

If traveling during freezing weather I would suggest to leave the Scamp winterized and just use without water. Not worth risking freezing and bursting of pipes.
