A Bigger Bed For Our Trillium
When we bought our Trillium, we knew the bed would be small. But we really didn't realize how small it would be. With two adults it's cozy. Two adults and the golden retriever, as they say in the old country, fagetaboutit. While camping at the Land Between the Lakes, Piney campground, we met Jeb Garfunkle. Jeb and his wife, Fawn, were in the site across the way. Old Molly smelled the hot dogs and just had to go visit. It seems she slipped her collar. Next thing you know we were all sitting around the campfire having a very fine visit. We repeated the evening again and again over the next several nights.
One night after our wives had gone to bed, Jeb and I got to talking about the Trillium. I told him we loved the trailer except for the bed size. The next morning while I was getting water for the trailer, Jeb spotted me and called me over. "You know Raz, I bet I know a way to make the bed in your Trillium considerably bigger". It turns out that Jeb and his sister Alice run the Garfunkle Bros. Garage in Asheboro, North Carolina. Jeb had an idea that we talked about for several hours. The next day we followed Jeb and Fawn back to Asheboro. Maggie and I decide to leave our little trailer with Jeb and Alice. Over the next several months, Jeb and I made plans for the project; making drawings and obtaining parts. Most the the parts came from a 1988 Montana fifth wheel. We got hardware from McMaster Carr, an aluminum jack from Harbor Freight, and odds and ends from the local Tractor Supply and Home Depot. Three weeks ago Maggie and I headed down to Asheboro. Over the course of three days we did the work. During last week's unusually warm weather we brought our trailer home to Vermont. Our Trillium 1300 now has a queen size bed. The trailer weight increased by 203 lbs. with a tongue weight decrease of 21 lbs. and a total cost $1223. We are delighted with the work Jeb, Alice and the crew at Garfunkle Bros. Garage have done. Should you be in the area by all means stop in.

Many things are possible on April 1st that seem unlikely the rest of the year.

Several folks have contacted me for a copy of the plans. Unfortunately, Jeb has them. Sorry, Raz

Kool! Looks like a well thought out upgrade. How do you keep rainwater from pooling on it?

James, The picture was taken without the EASY UP addition that Jeb sells on the side. Keith

Okay, I get it. Before you get too involved with this mod, notice the date it was posted.

Yes I saw the date, I was hoping you still had this Trillium, I guess from your answer it's no longer in your possession. Impressive mod though...

We still have the trailer. And I have a warped sense of humor, especially on April first.

Well, in that case, if you get a chance I would love to see the inside with it extended, and maybe some closeups of the slide out mechanisms...
I love a good mod!

I solved it by having my 100 lbs retriever/lab sleep on the front bed - despite him trying very hard to cuddle up to us! LOL
