Quantum 5 fifth wheel

Just bought a 17' Fiberglass Quantum 5 fifth wheel and doing a complete redo. I have some left over hardwood floor panels I was thinking about using on the walls and reg.ceiling tiles glued on the ceiling?????

Congrats on your Quantum fifth wheel acquisition. I have always thought they were the nicest looking small fifth wheel available.

Keeping the weight down on camping trailers is a high priority in their design, (sometimes too high, resulting in problems for the end user). To panel the walls with hardwood flooring meant for homes completely disregards this priority, in my mind.

One resource that is seldom mentioned on this forum is the collection of many publications on boat and yacht interior design. The structure and application is very similar. I have never seen any use of ceiling tile on a boat, but interestingly there are some designers who use custom home style wall papers.

You'd want to research this before you attempt it. I'm sure there are some special types of wall paper as well as special adhesives that would be appropriate for a yacht or RV. The colors, designs, textures and material to select from is mind boggling, so if you go that route, your Quantum will be unique, for sure!

Thanks for the info Loren. I found RV headliner at a fabric store and am using it for the back wall and ceiling. We had to have the fifth wheel raised 27" to match our truck, it looks like a grasshopper! We got it so we can take our two dogs with us and not have to worry about a hotel that will take pets. Sure is fun fixing up. All the assescories are updated so it is really just a few cosmetic things.

Brenda, should have flipped the axles and used some high arch springs. It would have been much easier to do. Harold Dean former Quantum 5 owner.

All the Quantum fifth wheel trailers that I have seen were stick built with Fg ends. Most weighed in at over 3 tonnes. I would love to see pictures of your 17 footer and find out more about it.

James,l I think you are probably referring to the new Quantum series 5th wheeler made by Fleetwood industries. The Quantum 5 we are referring to were built between 1978 and 1981 with 500 being built before production ceased. They were on a steel frame with fiberglass nose, roof and rear end with the sides being a pair of fiberglass sheets joined in the middle applied over a wooden support structure. The1981 I had that I referred to weighed in around 1900 pounds. They are two entirely different trailers. Harold Dean

I would still like to see the 17 foot set-up.

Charles, just out of curiosity... did you buy your Quantum from Kent?

No Donna, I bought it from Merlin Klotz he was on here for awhile trying to sale it. I actually found it on Comancheclub.com and then seen it later when i joined this site.
