Well if they are the bunk hatch boards, as Booker mentioned, then they would outgas into the trailer, no?
It's my observation that most (all?) campers are made with quite a number of fairly toxic materials that would be outgassing for some time*; but that seems to be the nature of the beast. I think that at this point, one would have to make a fairly concerted effort to get a new trailer that didn't have this issue. That's one point in the favor of an older trailer.
Not specifically picking on Escape here, just to make it clear. They look like nice trailers, and from what I hear, the owners are very nice to work with.
