Smile UHaul and Friends Gathering April 13-15, 2012

New FGRV friends, Mary and Bob and Jane and Greg are planning to introduce their CT 13 UHaul campers to each other in Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, SC. We invite you to join us. We are not sure how many are in a "Rally" so we will just "gather." Since Jane and Greg live .5 of a mile from Sesqui they will host a reception in their garden and Greg will take his camper cap off and put his train hat on and give a tour of his garden railroad.
We hope you can come. From I-77 take the Two Notch exit east about 2 miles, Sesqui will be on the right.

Jane: You are now the official "Mothership" of the gathering. Standard procedure is that you now reserve a site, post what it is, and everyone else reserves around that central site. When the gathering grows, then other events are planned. At the teardrop gathering we do in june, we did a potluck supper until the event got so big it got changed to a wine & cheese thing. We also do a "steal-a-gift " event and a food drive for the local food pantry with a raffle prize for those donating food. Bob

Hi Bob and Mary- your ideas from the teardrop group sound great. We drove over to Sesquicentennial State Park today and booked site 14 for April 13 -15. There are three pull through sites in a row, 47, 49 and 50 that are very close to the bath house. Maybe you could reserve 49? (pull through sites appeal to us, because we aren't so good at backing) To make reservations call 1-866-345-PARK or go online to www.southcarolinaparks.com

Sesquicentennial State Park address is: 9564 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC. 29223 and park direct telephone number is 803-788-2706.

We call it "Blueberry" because Mary found it while on a trip to get some blueberries. She drove about an hour because she wanted to get the small "wild" type berries, rather than the large cultivated berries. It was just one of those dumb luck finds, in the right place at the right time. She spotted it at a RV dealer, parked between a couple big trailers, where it had just been brought in for sale on consignment. Buying our 1946 teardrop was another dumb luck thing too. What site did you reserve, 14 ??? Short trailers are harder to back up, they turn real fast. Bob

Love the name BLUEBERRY and the great story behind it. Yup, posted wrong site, actually booked site# 47. Never have been good with numbers. Jane

This sounds like fun! Sorry we can't attend, though, since Cindy L. and I will be in Denver for an educational conference that weekend. There seem to be a few UHauls east of the Mississippi, so maybe we can all schedule a rally at some center location sometime in the future - eastern Kentucky maybe? There is a nice park at Jenny Wiley State Park that we've used a few times.

Have a great weekend in April! You should have beautiful flowers by then.

Bob and Mary - I am so sorry that I have to write this. I have been in Iowa since the end of Feb as my Dad had a recurrence of bladder cancer and had more surgery. Greg is holding the fort down in SC. He may or may not be there on the 14th as it is day by day with Dad. We will keep you posted. I know I will not be there as I will be taking my parents to Mayo in Rochester on Monday and will be ther for dour weeks while Dad has radiation. We hope to get back to our fun camping days sometime. We are on caringbridge.org. Lesterjuhl(all one word). Jane

Rally is canceled. We didn't get any other participants, then Jane had to go help her father with health issues, so we canceled our reservation and are returning home from GA to NY by a different route. Sorry it didn't work out, but family has priority. Mary & Bob
