BIGFOOT 1989 17B need left fender

Lost my wheel and fender when all 5 lug bolts sheered off at 70mph on I75. All is well except for lost fender. Any help in locating one would be appreciated. Ed H.

I'm no help with the fender; however, I have a question. Does your street-side hub had reverse thread lug bolts like my 1980 has?

Bigfoot Fender

Tom, I replaced both hubs with new elec brake hubs last year. The original had normal threads(right to tight).

I am not absolutely sure, but almost sure the left and right fenders are from the same mold. Left and right fenders are likely the same. That said, finding a replacement is close to impossible. If I was faced with this issue I would look into making one or even 2 new fenders. A good fiberglass shop could easily do this. If you have the old pieces, unlikely with a 70 MPH failure, a repair would also be a possibility.

Have you tried the factory in British Columbia? They may not have the parts, but they may have access to the old forms (for a custom job for you) and they are experts on bigfoot paint & materials.

I think this is current info:
Address 4114 Crozier Rd, Armstrong, BC V0E 1B6

Bigfoot Fender

Mike, I contacted Grant, with Bigfoot, and he is indeed able to still make one for me. Cost $225. Guess my luck is still holding out. Ed H.

That's really great to know. Hope I never need one. Will the replacement be the newer almost white gel coat or will it match the older color we have?

Bigfoot Fender

Jack, just got a response from Grant(at Bigfoot) and the fender(he calls it a flare) will be the original Colonial White. I certainly feel fortunate.

I got the same great service from Grant at the Bigfoot factory a year or so ago. I had a severely damaged fender that was part of a hail storm insurance claim. I checked out three options: body shop repair of the original part, fiberglass molded replacement from scratch, or factory replacement. The quickest and least expensive was the factory replacement. A local boat shop wanted nearly $1000 to make a mold and manufacture one from scratch. Making a mold that is only going to be used once is not very cost effective. Current Bigfoot models use a different fender mold than the older models, so it is great they kept the old molds and can provide replacement parts when needed.

Received the fender yesterday and it feels great having the B17 back in tip top shape.
