Thinking of selling 1988 16 ft Scamp

I'm thinking of selling my beloved standard 1988 16 ft. Scamp. We've had some great fun, but I'd like a hybrid. Our first camper was a hybrid. I camp alone quite a bit and can handle it by myself. Wondering what I should ask for it? I'm seeing $4,500 - $6,000 for some of the same issues or less features than I have with camper. I feel it's only right to disclose the bad. Right? I love this camper, but I need more space.

1988 16 ft. Scamp layout #4 and is in good condition overall. Needs some cosmetic fixes.
Sleeps 4 - Rear dinette folds down to become a full (double) sized bed.
Front sofa converts to bunk beds.
3-way fridge, furnace with thermostat
3-burner cooktop and exhaust fan with light
Sink with electric pump or city water hook up
Wall air conditioner - very cold
Fantastic "type" fan factory installed
Roof escape hatch vent (see below needs to be replaced)
Hot water heater
Screen door
Toilet
Shower - never used, but has new shower head
Black holding tank
Grey water holding tank
Overhead cabinets
Closet
Rear receiver hitch for bike rack
Dual propane tank bracket
Mounted rear stabilizer jacks
1.9 cubic frig Dometic RM 2201 - still works great
Many snap caps replaced, however several are missing again

The Scamp is in over all good shape.
Seat covers have been cleaned
Non-smoker and no cooking in-door
Occasionally brought dog along in wire crate
Recent updates include:
New cabinet knobs
New Allure Vinyl floor installed in 2009 or 10. Have extra strips.

The bad:
Escape hatch started leaking and needs to be replaced
Door is warped/sags
Table wall brackets have come off - table is never set up.
The front window rock guard left latch doesn’t stay hooked
30-amp electrical plug cover missing
Stove fan vent outside plastic cover broken
Pet cock from on-board water tank fell off. Still have piece, not sure if it can be reattached.
Needs gel coat
Needs tires - had blowout in August, so no spare
Wiring needs adjustment only right side works. We think it’s the ground.
No battery
Black holding tank seal or termination valve needs to be replaced. Have to put bucket under before lever is pulled because it leaks a little before hose it attached.
Needs a few snap caps and rivet replacements

It's really great of you to be so candid. It's actually just what we're looking for, but too far away. :-(
Best of luck!

Some pictures might be helpful. And I think disclosing the good and the bad is especially important when folks might be coming several hundred miles to inspect and purchase a camper. Kudos for that.

Just a reminder to folks to send Private Message to seller or request a PM to avoid putting email addresses or phone numbers on a public web page. Click on name to send a PM.

Don't mean to step on a for sale post, but you asked for opinions so here goes a few thoughts. The biggest is the condition of the axle. When I bought my 1988 Scamp 16 layout 4 earlier this year the first thing I had to do was install a new axle as the old one had failed. The escape hatch cover ($45ish) is still available from Scamp, if that is all that is needed it is pretty simple to rivet on as is a new $10 cord port door assembly. It sounds like several of the “bad” items are pretty small stuff you could sort out and help your price out a little. I hesitate to price somebody else’s goods but as-is I am saying the low end of your range, fix the little stuff* and offer a ready to camp unit (good axle) and you are easily in the upper end.

*I mean get a battery & spare tire, no leaks on the roof (new hatch or whatever), cord port, etc., etc.

You said you wanted a hybrid. I'm wondering about that after watching the canvas getting blown out of a hybrid while in Death Valley a couple years ago. The wind was a short but strong gust, followed by rain. The owners of the hybrid were no where around with their trailer open to the rain. I would think that a nice fully hard sided trailer would be better.

We are interested in your Scamp if you have not sold it, but would like some picture before driving to MN to see it. What is the price, as is?

Thanks for your interest. I have an interested party here in MN, but if it doesn't work out, I was given great advice to fix broken things and sell in the Spring. I'm still back and forth about selling.
