Trillium trouble-shooting

Hi everyone,
I just bought a 1973 Trillium and am wondering what I should watch out for. She doesn't leak and the electrical and propane work well. I plan to park her at campsite for at least one summer before I tackle any renovation. I would like to have a good list of needs and wants before I start tearing things out and replacing them. She was partially renovated at some point. The upper bunk has been replaced by a small shelf, linoleum has been put over the original floor, the fridge and cushion covers have been replaced and the heater has been removed. She needs a thorough cleaning, but should be comfortable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Patricia. The most common recommendation is to check the date on the tires to see how old they are. Because our trailers sit for long periods of time, the tires can look new and yet need replacing. Most replace tires every 5-6 years. With a trailer this old its worth having the axle checked. It might need replacing. If the axle is good then the bearings should be greased and if the trailer has brakes, they should be checked and adjusted. Any good mechanic can do the job. No brakes? Consider adding them. Finally, there was a frame recall on early Trilliums. Extra steel plates were added to strengthen the frame where it bends up and in. Do a site search for pictures and details. This is all the safety stuff. If the previous owner took care of it then it's time to make it yours. Enjoy, Raz

Thanks for the advice. I did find a crack in the arm going to the trailer hitch. I had a mobile welder come and fix it. My neighbour checked the wheel, tires and axle for me and they looked good. The trailer doesn't have breaks, but I plan to look into them.

You might want to add the plates, probably right where your crack was. Nothing special, just like they did on the 4500.
