Bigfoot Screen Door Latch

Does anyone have one? I was just noticing this today. The door just sits in place with no way of latching. Is mine missing something, or did they not come with one back in 91, or what?

Anyone have advice on adding something? I can certainly rig something, but I'll bet somebody has a more elegant solution...

I'd also like to see ways to hold the main door open. Any light wind from the front of the trailer and it swings shut.

Thanks!

There's nothing to take a photo of!

No latch. Just held in place by friction, I guess.

Thanks. Your slider looks different than what I'm used to, but take a look at these.

Are these meant to attach to the outside or inside face of the door? I assumed inside but that would make the "left hand latch" and "right hand latch" seem wrong to me, looking at the photos...

They attach to the outside face of the door. I just checked mine.

Thanks.

Did you buy it that way or install them yourself?

My 1991 Bigfoot 17 has a boss, a bump, in the door frame, below the holes for the door lock. This bump is only in the center of the frame, with a flat frame area inboard and outboard of the bump. Sorry, I am not at home so I cannot provide a picture. A spring loaded roller is attached to the edge of the screen door. It rolls across the door frame when closing the screen door. When the roller passes over the bumb its spring is compressed. After passing over the bump the roller springs back against the flat area of the frame. The boss then keeps the screen door from opening until you push on the door. This arrangement has come from the factory.

On mine the screen door opened separately from the main door, which can be a nuisance. The small steel plate on the screen door was not flush with the magnets attached to the main door. After shimming the magnets to be flush with the plate, the screen stays with the main door when opening, unless you pull them apart.

Thanks for the help on this! I'll need to be replacing some of the magnets that hold the screen door to the regular door soon, but this is a huge improvement in door function for now.

Thanks.

Some of these parts have been taking up space in my house and it was time to move them out! Any other projects for which I haven't already bought materials are going to have to wait till paychecks start coming in. But I have still have some stuff to work on until then, and this should get me through for a couple months. I think I've done everything that I really wanted to do before camping in it at all. The other stuff can wait a bit.

I'd like to see yours too!

If I'm in your area I'll be sure to let you know. I was traveling around quite a bit the last couple years, but I'm staying put more now.
