Smile 1978 Burro - looking for info

Hi! I have the opportunity to purchase a 1978 Burro (13 ft). It is in decent shape...some original, some not. A few patches on the exterior. Water hoses need replacing and potentially the tank too. They are asking $4000.00.

I am looking for opinions on that model as well as thoughts on that price. I have not found a bunch of comparables out there. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Based on the condition, it sounds over priced to me.

You can check sites like this to see what they’ve sold for in the past. There is a link for past postings which have sold. Plus ones currently for sale.

Good luck!

Looking at prices on that site myself, I’d say that depending on the overall condition, it’s actually probably on the right ballpark. Depends. But water lines and tank may not be a small job and typically for every problem you know about now, you’ll find three more after buying it...

There will probably other issues too. Check the floor and the frame. Considering the demand for fiberglass trailers and the fact that we are now in the peak of camping season, the price is probably realistic. Hard to tell without photos.

I bought my 1981 13' Burro last year for $3500. It was a fixer. The floor was good but that was about it. I have repaired fiberglass, repaired the roof and installed a new roof vent, added structural supports inside to support the sagging roof, repainted the exterior, new counter with sink, new cushions, and installed a front table. I still have to replace all the windows, axle and rewire the interior. After all that , I still think I got it for a good price for my area (Oregon).

We sold our 1978 13' Burro in 2007 for $3250. This sounds about right for the price now unless there are major repairs not yet disclosed.

I bought a 1981 13foot for $900 this past April. It had been sitting for a couple of years but is in overall good condition. I need to re do the inside and some new tires. Pulled everything out from inside to make my own. If it is is really good condition then that may not be a bad price.

I paid $3k for a 1982, and only because the floor and frame were in good shape. Everything else needed a re-do. If you want to completely recondition it, figure on spending up to an additional $6k by the time you're done, $2k if you're not very picky.

If the floor is solid it’s worth it. I would call $4,000 solid fixer upper price.
