...the only time I hit the exchange places is when the date has expired on the tank...I have never seen a place turn down an exchange and I have exchanged some skechy looking tanks...exchange tanks are generally filled to 3.5 to 4 gals to allow for expansion while sitting in the sun (I once drove for a
propane wholesaler)...they are also generally filled by a minimally paid employee, who is standing in the middle of dozens or hundreds of tanks. Do you think he actually takes time to do a proper refill???
Here, locally, I get mine refilled at the ACE hardware down the road from me. I filled 4 tanks yesterday for 40 bucks(1 was still half full)...I think the gas was around 2.49/gal..........

p.s. I have seen some debate about whether or not the recert date on tanks had been lowered to 10 yrs from 12 yrs...I asked the refill person about that and she told me, it had been dropped to 10 yrs...then a month later they got a letter that said "never mind" and the date has staid at 12 yrs...just an FYI.............mj
