Removing Stove Trim 17' Boler

The laminate countertop in my 1979 Boler is worse for wear and I would like to replace it The table is no problem: I have just built a new table -- simple.

I am having dificulty removing the trim around the stove top, however. I am beginning to wonder if it is necessary to remove the entire stove to get the trim off. (Which seems odd to me; why have trim if you don't use it to trim things out after installation?) Does anyone have experience with this?
