Question for U-Haul, Burro Owners

Has anyone who owns a top seam FG trailer had leakage problems? It would seem logical that if a seam for the two FG shells come together on the top center of the trailer, that eventually it would leak somewhere along the seam line. Has anyone seen this happen?

Is there a rubber gasket or something that keeps the seam from leaking on a U-Haul or Burro trailer?

Most FG shells come together on the sides, with the halves being top and bottom, rather than side to side.

Thanks in advance for anyone's response..
Dennis

Yes, you can get that seam gasket replacement. I have not heard of a leak from there so far though, not that it may not have happened, but I do not remember reading about a leak on that gasket.

I learned from deconstructing my Burro that the two clamshells are fiberglassed together there along that longitudinal seam, so there is a vanishingly small chance of leakage. The gasket is just there to pretty up the raw flanges.

I had seam leakage in a couple places on our Uhaul. I blame it on poor assembly. There is no gasket, just a trim piece and it is not continuous across the top because of the vent opening.

U-Haul, Burro and Companion

Also, you can include the Companion, as it has the vertical seam. I have never seen a leak in our Companion.

Thanks

Thank you people.. I was wondering and worried that if I bought one of these trailers, that it might form a leak or have one already.

In my experience, my Burro leakages came from weaknesses in window seals, and from rainy road water thrown up into gaps at the bottom of the door.

Don't forget the seal around the ceiling vent! Also, a cracked or open vent will allow LOTS of water in!

+1 on the ceiling vent... not a cloud in the sky when I left it open for the day! I guess hot and stuffy trumps wet and clammy.

In the 13 years I've owned my Burro I've never had a problem with any leakage along the center seam. Windows and an improper installation of a Fantastic Fan, yes.
