Resealing scamp "Escape Hatch".

So I was gettting some leaks around my scamp "Escape hatch" I have removed it and all the gunky goo holding it on.

My trailer is a 1980 and I dont know how much of that goo was original and how much was PO added.

At any rate I did NOT see any butyl tape or anything else between the edges of the escape hatch housing and the roof of the scamp.

1) Has any one else removed and/or replaced this and did you use butyl tape or what did you use, how well did it work and how many years ago was that?

2) Also if you did use butyl tape, what size rivets did you use to replace the cover.

Thank you!!!!!
