Quantum 5 Fifth Wheel Trailer
I don't know what happend to my previous post, but whatever it was cleaned out my registration also. I had to reregister to gain access and it says my last post was May 16, but I can't seem to find it. I do however, find posts from people talking about my post, so here it goes again. I just purchased a 1981 Quantum 5 Fifth wheel trailer that is 17 feet long, weighs 1700 pounds, has tandem axles and was pulled by a 4 cylinder Ford Ranger. I intend to pull it with my 6 cylinder 4.0 Ranger, since I have an 83 Chateau light weight that I pull with my Explorer 4.0 and don't even know it is behind me. My question was, Does anyone out there know who the manufacturer was. It is not Terry, because they did not start using the Quantum name until 96. I have a feeling that it is one of the BC Canada rigs, but don't know for sure. If anyone can help me with this question or perhaps know where I can find the information, I would be very grateful. About the bathroom, yes it does have one and since I have to reload the pictures anyway, I will load one of the bathroom for the curious. Thank You Harold

5th Wheel
Harold,
Nice looking unit. I don't care for most 5th wheels but this one is different. With all the small pickups you would think someone would be building these.

Harold ... thanks for going through the trouble of re-registering and re-posting.
Some stuff, yours included, got lost in the transition to a new server. And we all missed it!
So thanks! And I agree. I look forward to joining up with you for a camp-out someday ... and kicking the tires on your rig!

Quantum
:wave Hey, Harold!
Thank you so much for posting your pictures (again). As you can tell by the others posts, we were all in a tizzy to see your Quantum. It is a great looking trailer and appears to be in excellent shape. Congratuations!
The Quantum seems to be new to most of us so, hopefully, we can all start checking around and see what we can come up with.
BTW... is there an oven under that stove?

Qantum 5
I really don't know Suz, since I haven't picked it up yet. The pictures are the ones furnished by the guy I bought it from. I will email him and ask though. Harold

Based on your photo Harold, it looks like oven knobs and an oven door are below the counter with the basket. It appears that the Quantums may have an oven but no stove top - unless the burners are camouflaged by the counter top.
At first I was going to say no stove since there is a toaster oven sitting on the dinette table and no burners were visible. Plus, the RV Trader ad showing photos of another Quantum 5th wheel featured a portable two burner propane stove sitting on the counter - again no visible built-in stove top.
Until someone else comes forward, Harold, it appears that you are the resident Quantum expert on this BB.

I think it has an oven with cook top. cook tops by themselves don't have knobs in front (or at least rv ones don't) if you will observe the line across the cabinet top it is seamed and either hinges up for stove top use or lifts up and is removed.

:) my opinion of course. I've never seen one of these Quantums before.

I think we will all have to wait for the previous owner to send me a photo of the stove. I will not be picking the unit up until mid July as I am stuck out here in (beautiful!) Southwest Wyoming on a job until the first week of July. I have contacted the previous owner and asked him to furnish a photo of the stove arrangement and I will post it when I get it. Thanks for your interest and keep looking for information on who built it if you will please. Harold

I'm just going to add my voice to the chorus here: Thanks for reposting, and it is a cool looking trailer.
I hope somebody (soon) comes up with more info on its manufacture. Perhaps you being here will attract another Quantum owner. A trailer this nice surely would withstand the test of time - even if not many were made, surely there are several still around! (Yours is absolutely beautiful!)

Quantum
Thank You, Mary. It has taken me a long time to make up my mind just exactly what I wanted to settle in with in the long run. I have had aluminum wood framed trailers in various lengths and categories. The pull behinds, I always had trouble living with the swaying, no matter what type of sway control I used. I liked the 5th wheels because the sway was not nearly as noticeable and could be corrected by an application of the accelerator. I have towed with nearly everything, and next to my 86 supercab F150, I liked how the Ranger towed, (Ihave had about 10 of them so far). A friend had one of the casita 5th wheelers and I liked the way it handled, but don't particularly care for the bubble shape. I like my corners more squared. I got a chance to tow one of these with my 85 ranger 2.8 V6, 5 speed and I absolutely loved it. I was delivering it for a gentleman in California. I never saw another one until this one came up on E Bay and I jumped on it. There was only one other bidder to contend with, and obviously he did not know what it was or he would not have given up so easily. I think I will be happy now for quite awhile with this setup. I like the smaller trucks and trailers since I do not intend to live in in the rest of my life, just a vacation now and then. I will append a picture to this note later and show you what I intend to live in as soon as I retire (uncertain). I am 64 and in excellent health, just UFO (ugly, fat and old) with a very good job and I may not retire for awhile. Harold

Probablly, back then I was a wood framed aluminum skin nut, too busy working on my little homebuilt helicopters to really pay much attention to trailers. Harold

Mary, I realize this is not a trailer, but it is the retirement home I said I would post. More info is available off site at my email harolddean61911@yahoo.com

Harold, we're gonna have to wash your mouth out with soap for even admitting that!
Also ... in the spirit of all of us molded fiberglass nuts getting along, you gotta remember that some of us really, really, really, love the bubble shape ... really!
It would have been better had you said "I'd prefer the shape of the Quantum."
But, still, if you're fiberglass, you're family!

OK I'll go along with it and stand corrected, "The reason I purchased the Quantum 5 is that I prefer the shape of it's structure more so than thatof the eggs", however if someone wants to gift me with one I have been a life member of nra (never refuse anything). Harold
