1975 Ventura Floor

Hello all, I need advise on the floor for a 1975 Ventura floor. I pulled out the pcs that was on. It was 3/8 think. I notice there were holes on the fiberglass to attach to the frame under the camper.

Should I just patch up the fiberglass?

What thickness of floor should I use?1/2 or 3/4?

Should I use a jack to raise the fg to meet the plywood because of low areas?

I noticed the fg doesn't sit on the frame on the btm? Is it suppose too?

Thanks for the help.

Gerry

What I did…

Hi Gerry,

I patched the holes with Marine-Tex and used 3/4" untreated plywood. I replaced the bolts and added larger washers to prevent them from pulling through. Then I used coated self-tapping screws (Teks) in a few places driven through the plywood into the frame below. My fibreglass did not sit on the frame in a few places either. I just left it as-is. The plywood under the front bench was okay, so I just added some extra 1/4" ply washers to clean up the existing holes.

I did a full interior restore in my 77 Ventura last winter.
Make sure the floor fiberglass is in good shape. If not put down a new layer of glass first. Instead of trying to bond the new plywood floor to the wet fiberglass I did the glassing first and then glued down two layers of plywood on the new fiberglass. I put down 1 sheet of 5/8" and 1 sheet of 1/2". This made the door frame work well. Under the trailer I put wedge shaped treated lumber to re level the floor taking up the space between the steel frame and the fiberglass floor. You must put some sort of reinforcing here or take trailer off frame and install new steel framework. I used wood. As for any holes, put some glass mat down to seal them from water penetration.
I used premium adhesive to bond the plywood floor to the new fiberglass. And also glued the 2 layers of new plywood. This will make the floor solid as a rock.
Paul Lewis has some good ideas as well.
Good luck, its worth it. These are great little trailers.

I know this thread is from few years ago but thought I’d inquire - any tips to pulling up the floor without removing the door?

I figured door needed to come off. Dang.. was hoping to avoid that.
Smart move with treated wood then plywood. I may do the same. What ply or thickness plywood?

Looks amazing! You’re giving me hope. Lol. Helps me eye ball some dimensions above with cabinets too.

How many inches are the bench’s spaced for the table?

Ok... got the bolts out and table area plywood up today. A mix of victory quickly followed by discovery. Two lower spots behind the wheel wells had an inch or so of water (very old dark looking water). Endless discoveries eh! Felt like sharing. Click image for larger version
