Yes, this is the handle/key to the lift, that we use to level the trailer.

What I was looking at Paul, is that red looking D shaped handle on it, and was wondering if that was for manually lifting without using the jack itself. I say this, as with some of the smaller trailers, we are always moving them around by hand, and it sure would be nice to have a nice handle to grab, rather than using the hitch.

European 'jacks' are known (in English) as 'jockey wheels' and have two means of adjustment:

- undoing the clamp on the side allows the whole tube to be slid up and down (where Paul's red handle means he doesn't have to grab the dirty tube);

- turning the handle on the top is done only for fine adjustment.

So for example, unhitching the trailer is usually done by undoing the clamp, allowing the jockey wheel to drop to the ground, tightening the clamp and then winding the handle as the hitch is unlocked.

Forgetting to fully tighten the side clamp (or it rattling undone) and the jockey wheel dropping while driving isn't unknown! Superior jockey wheels have a ribbed shaft so they don't just rely on friction to hold them in place.

And remember that since all European trailers have those old-fashioned rod/cable-operated mechanical brakes, they all have a handbrake also.

Sorta like this idea: The Ultimate Jack - A-Frame Trailer Jack at its finest!
Which is also great to get the jack out of the way on low hitch trailers.

The red handle helps me to move the trailer. My trailer is very light and at the trailer park I arrange it by myself or with a help of my son.
Thank you very much to all of you for appreciating my work. I also read your forum and I have learned a lot already.
You have a mine of knowledge here and a lot of very interesting ideas. I have found already some, that I would like to implement in my trailer.
We send our warm regards to all of you!

Thanks for that confirmation, Paul. It certainly would be handy to have that handle on a light trailer.

Amazing rebuild! Great job!
We have the same trailer and are in the process of stripping it down to rebuild. I was very excited to see all your pictures! I hope ours turns our half as nice as yours!

The works at our trailer keep on going. We have installed photovoltaic cell (solar cell), voltage regulator, the whole electrics has been completed.

Additionally I installed also the doors for storage under the bed. It will help me to use the space more efficient.

Amazing job, takes a lot of patience to do something like this

Do you know what is the weight of bare fiberglass, i'd like to remove it from chassis for a sandblasting?
