Burro exterior clear coat peeling off

I have a mid 80s Burro 17'. I am in Escondido area north of San Diego, CA. The burro is parked outdoors and I noticed that there seems to be a clearcoat of some kind on the fiberglass body. The clearcoat is peeling off the roof area - it does get pretty hot here in summer. I think this is not normal and wonder if there may be a negative effect on the fiberglass. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Can I re-coat the area that is peeling? Is there a clearcoat made for this type of repair?

Any help will be appreciated.

I don't believe there was any type of clear coat put on these trailers from the factory. I wonder if it might be a wax or floor finish that is peeling off. If so, you can probably remove it with a mild abrasive and some scrubbing. Then, recoat with new wax or a finish like ZEP. I know I removed old finish from my trailer with some acetone and a plastic scrubbie pad ( not steel wool!).

Ditto to what Kevin said. Unless a previous owner sprayed clear coat on the gelcoat, it didn't come that way from the factory.

Do you have any ammonia handy? Try that. It won't hurt the gelcoat and women used it for years to strip floor wax off linoleum floors. I buy gallons of it at the Dollar Store.. lemon scented a buck a gallon... can't beat the price!

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the fiberglass should be OK after whatever it is has peeled off. Of course I should put some sort of polish/protectant on it anyhow.
