Jennifer's 1979 Scamp "Journal"
After yet another fun day working on the Scamp, I realized it's time for a "redo" journal to share everything in. This is our 1979 Scamp, bought six months ago to replace our 1964 Cardinal canned ham. It's in pretty good shape overall, and we bought it from the original owners. We are fixing things up and updating bit by bit!

Lots of wd40, steel wool, and sandpaper....this is window that an air conditioner was installed in. I've removed the A/C, and found a window to salvage parts from to rebuild it. One part is on order, so for now only the screen is in with plastic sheeting for monsoon season.

On deck:
making cheap curtains out of fabric laying around my office to match the 1979 orange and yellow plaid (will be redone later, and curtains redone then).
Installing a window above the stove (bought, mostly cleaned up and ready)
New weather stripping around the door.
New hand pump faucet (whale V, coming in a week)
Putting together that window where the A/C was.
New axle/tires/wheels/brakes
Longer term:
Rebuild top bunk
New, larger roof vent (and fan?)
New table and cabinet doors
New flooring
Closet insides-shelves and such
Silverware drawer below stove and tip out drawer below sink

Keep it up, Zennifer!
Nothing inside my Scamp 13 is original except for the closet, and that may be gone within a year. Mine is not a renovation, but a re-making. I think you'll find that your Scamp will become an extension of yourself, once you get more and more involved with changes and improvements. It's all yours. Have fun with it!

I spent most of the day scraping old weather stripping from around the door. Two layers of yellow and grey sticky foam. Mechanical force with a flathead screwdriver plus goof off and a rag got it clear and ready for new weatherstripping. The door is now watertight!

And I'm very much looking toward to it! We always buy fixer uppers, and this is a nice SMALL place to make my own. The risks are much smaller if I hate it!!

I like your idea of adding a window above the stove. I think I will do that for my Campster renovation.

Well, for anyone curious, THAT was a 7/32" rivet. I'll say "oops" because I'd already prepped the rest of the window and removed the plastic sheeting from the window hole before drilling it out. I'm kind of regretting removing them; it was to use the already installed and unrusted parts in our existing frame.
Due to a camping trip in less than two weeks, I decided to move forward and bolt it together, with an eye towards replacing it with the proper sized rivet later (it is accessible installed).
I did the installation in the existing frame from the outside; later this summer we will pop it out and rerivet/seal it, but it's doing great at the moment.
The last picture is how it looked BEFORE we removed the Air Conditioner. . nice change....already so much cooler!!

Found this free in a pile of leftover garage sale items (with a "free" sign.). It fits perfectly in the closet, so we can go camping and try it out/see how we like it/want to use it before doing something more expensive and permanent. Project for tomorrow: mKing a plywood shelf with legs for it to sit on instead of the tipping wheel well, and maybe go biting out a way to attack it to the side. Thinking tension rod and zip ties?

Also, started cutting out the new table and table pull out. Table us 3/4" birch, pull out is 1/2" birch with reinforcements. The leftover ply will be the new cabinet doors-helping offset the weight gain from the pullout, and just looking better!

And table in. Still working out the logistics of the pull out floor support....but it looks amazing. Now to do the rest of the cabinets with birch...the plaid looks so much better with birch!
