Let the fun begin! 74 boler rebuild

So it's now my turn to start a build thread 😄

So I'm not 100% if I'll be restoring/updating or if I'll be doing a custom build. Mostly I think I'll be doing half and half to my liking. I bought this boler in summer of 2014, ever since I was young I've always wanted one of these. Finally got one 👍👍

I've used it for me and my family for the summer and now just getting time to start the demolition! I've so far only got the sub floor for the table ripped out, tonight my saw blade snapped And I don't have no more till tomorrow. But the saga will continue!! Here a few pics of my start

So the frame seems to be good so far but I have a good feeling it's going to be bent so my very first plans are frame, floors, then insulation, that should tie me over some time to figure out more of my plans

So I have all benches out it I'm having problems getting the fridge/sink/stove and the closet out, is there anything special I should be looking for? All rivets are out

Never mind I got it just took some persuasive actions lol!!
I was just worried to bust up any of the shell. So tomorrow after work I plan to have the sink/stove removed and the upper cupboards then it's back to frame and floor!

It has begun!! Now that this is all out if anyone wants the interior stuff it's all yours free not the best condition but will get you by in a pinch or if you wanted to restore it all

Fun times I remember it well.

Just remember the structure to support the shell, currently there is nothing to prevent the shell from sagging.

I might be interested in the front bench/bunk. I'm in Alberta. What shape is it in? And maybe some of the other stuff. Do you have pics of the things you pulled out?

But now comes to the frame..... Makes me scared to see that all summer I been pulling this around with its conditions the way it is is...

And I'm a mini goal kinda guy I set mini daily goals or weekend goals ect but this weekend I think I have failed my goal, I wanted it off my frame and frame in the garage, well it is off the frame lol!! But not 100% to where I wanted it up be today, found out I need 1-2 more ppl to take this off, but I am still happy with my progress considering my minimal time




Never mind what a few beers can do. Beer brings help lol!!

Sorry been so absolutely crazy with work. But had a chance to get some more work this weekend on the frame. It's going pretty well. Besides welding I'm about 60% done measurements and cutting, just working on getting the bumper the 2 inner cross beams, ( the thin gauge 6 inch long sections) and the nose, then I have a good platform to work off of

Glad to see this Boler isn't out on the highway any longer with those kind of frame issues. Even better to see there are people like you putting things back together again. Please keep the photos coming on your project and let us know how the pieces fit back together.

I hope you are doing well

I'm getting close to lifting the fiberglass body off the frame of a 1974 Perris Pacer. What was your technique for doing the lift? I need to grind off all the old bolts. It looks straight forward but any advice is appreciated. I fear tweaking it when lifting and stress cracking the fiberglass.

Once it's off, is powder coating the preferred finish on the frame?

Fred, there has been a number of members that have used POR-15 with good results plus it's a DIY system.

We used POR15 on our frame. It was really easy. The trick is, when they say don't get it on yourself, they mean it. It wears like iron! Thank goodness for Tyvex suits!

Since we are replacing our leading arm axle with a trailing arm axle, I didn't feel it was safe to do welding on the frame while still attached to the shell. So, I attempted to remove the screws holding the shell to the frame and most were rusted beyond removal so I ended up pulling the plywood flooring with the screws still attached to the frame. Since I had the trailer lifted to get under it, I blocked the shell and lowered the frame. Then set the rear of the trailer on sawhorses then the front and pulled the frame out. That sounds easy but it wasn't since it was just me.

We lucked out with no frame damage and only surface rust on a 1976 13' Scamp!

I am removing surface rust and plan to use POR15. The front and rear plywood floors are O.K. but not great, so I am going to put resin coated plywood under the old floor and then fiberglass around the perimeter of the shell to seal. I am also going to have angle tabs welded to the frame and attach the frame and shell together with stainless bolts.

Good thing I have a friend who is a metal fabricator with a welder and full shop!

soooo been a long time since being on here and nope... work has not really happened on the boler sadly... the frame i should have back soon, ( yes i paid someone to do it for me, work has taken all the time from me)


i will be needing help on how to install the shell back onto the frame. steps as in should i place the flooring in first? and the shell on it, or build the floor inside the shell ect, this ive looked briefly but have not had much luck in researching on how to do this,
