EggCamper Owners-Info Please

We have been deciding between several FG eggs but keep coming back to Jim Palmer's EggCamper mainly due to the larger size and the fact that it isn't covered in all that carpet everywhere!

We are getting close to putting a deposit on a brand new unit, but would like any owners of new units (within the past couple of years) to answer a few questions.

The pricing and option sheet Jim sent us is pretty slim. The only options are an awning and a split mattress. But as far as what comes standard on the unit, the info is lacking too.

I have sent emails asking the below questions of Jim, but he just keeps sending me the same very limited PDFs instead of addressing my questions.

I read that people say he is better on the phone than with email, but I like my answers in writing so I can refer back to them. I sometimes forget to write down all that is said on the phone and then I am back at square one.

1. He mentions 14 gal fresh, but nothing about grey, black or a combo grey/black tank. Is there one?
2. Will he put in a cable tv connection? If not, what did it cost those of you who brought it to someone to put it in?
3. Are there any exterior outlets or a light outside the door?
4. I see some units with carpeting up the walls. I sure hope this is not the case as I want nothing on the walls/ceilings. That's why we are not getting a scamp or casita.
5. Is the shower area as big as it appears to be in the photos?
6. Is the Bimini awning he sells a good one? The photos make it appear rather flimsy. What have you done re: awning or screen rooms?
7. Does it come with a separate screen door?
8. I understand there is a window (escape hatch) that does not have a screen available for it. Is this the case?

I know I'm asking alot of questions, but even though I could call Jim and get these answers, I do like to hear it from those of you who are actually experiencing the units.

Thanks so much,
Anne

Hope some Eggcamper owners speak up but I just took a look at their website and found the answer to some of your questions:

1) WHAT SIZE TANKS ? Found under FAQ Section:

BLACK – 8 GALLONs

GREY – 24 GALLONS

FRESH –14 GALLONS

#7 - in the photo section of the website there are pictures taken from the inside of the trailer showing a full screen door.

Carol,

Thanks for the info. I've been all over that site (so I thought) and missed both of those things.

I had an EggCamper and can help with some answers. There is a fresh, black and grey tank, see above for capacities. Microwave and electric stove top I think is included. It has an electric water heater, 3 gallon, a 12v water pump, bath is very large with toilet/shower. There is a closet next to the bath that you can ask him to install shelves. 3 windows come with blinds and screens, a/c is under one of the dinette seats. There is a screen door. There is a small electric fan forced heater located in the kitchen area. One sink, in kitchen. No television hookups, no exterior 120v hookups and no exterior lights. That said, all of these are easy to add as the inside wiring is very accessible inside the cabinets to these items. I installed the Bimini awning and highly recommend having it. I had 2 o/h vents, not sure if one or two are installed now. Battery included. Interior had 3 x120v duplex and 5 x12v lights.

Jim,
Thanks for all the very helpful info. What year was your unit? Glad to hear the wiring is so accessable. That will make things much easier

The Bimini I installed myself! I also reversed all the upper cabinets so that you did not have to hold it open. I added several LED lights, both inside and outside.

WOW, how cute! I'm sure it was hard to part with it. If you don't mind me asking, why did you sell? I see you are in a 21' Escape. Was the eggcamper too small for you?

I added propane for a heater and was going to install double paned windows for winter use and had a long discussion with the window person. He said I was wasting my time since the shell was uninsulated. I would rather camp in the winter as the c/g are less crowded and was attempting to convert the Eggcamper into a 4 season camper. I realized it can only be a 3 season camper. That is why I went with Escape as they have insulation and thermapane windows and made for year round camping.

What great work you did. I hope the new owners appreciate all your hard work.

It seems like the glass shower door you added was a perfect size for the opening. Was that easy to do?

Oh, so he WILL do some changes/add-ons? The talk I'm hearing around here is that you get what he makes and that's it!
