Jon, no apology necessary. I wasn't speaking to you directly, but I know sometimes, issues become inflamed on forums. No one is out of line here because we are just sharing and caring.

I'm glad to have input from any and all that care to post. I can't possibly live long enough to learn everything that is out there learn all by myself so I value everyone's input from which to learn.

I estimate that the mount and the tire/wheel combination weighs less that 100 lbs and a representative from Scamp informed me that their rear bumper mount and sustain about 300 lbs. So, we're ok. Thanks for your input.
As Jon mentioned the receiver for the bike mount on mine is bolted to the bumper but more importantly it goes all the way back under the trailer and has a major connecting cross piece that is bolted into the trailers main frame in 4 spots ...... but if Scamp says the bumper on a 23 year old trailer can handle 300lbs I hope for your sake they are right!

Yup I sure did.... teach me to try and type with a small phone and no glasses! Lets just hope Scamp is right and its not a dumper !

BTW I was looking at your photo of the bumper and I see a long thin piece welded to the bumper that I do not recall seeing before. Did you add that as reinforcement?

Hi Norma G,
This is Laura - Yes and we will call her "Ziggy".
When Bill brought her home I was less than enamored to put it mildly. Not what I expected or hoped for and it has taken me a bit to get on board with the revamp or re-glamp, so it is my fault she has been called "The Skank". Not a nice name. She was pretty nasty. She is getting better by the week and I am getting really excited about both the project and the prospect of camping. This is a whole new world for us, a new adventure and we are thrilled to have found this forum for all of its wise advice and support. At this point we can say "Bill is Forgiven!" and look forward...

New door hinges installed this morning including stainless steel hardware. This job took a little longer than I anticipated (big surprise there, NOT) but the delays were in removing the old bolts that had been painted/rusted in place. Laura's busy finishing the cleanup of the inside of the cabinets and we'll be ready for our "test."

We plan on driveway-camping at least once to test our setup. Then we'll prolly take it out somewhere to get a road test as a shakedown to verify we have everything we need for really camping this coming season.

Ooooo, it's getting so very close...so exciting.

external freshwater holding tank

It's crazy cold here in Danville because winter swept in overnight. The current temperatures outside are 24° and the wind is blowing about 20 mph so I'm figuring windchill in the single digits. Much too cold to be working outside unless it's an emergency so I'm staying inside to work on our new fresh water tank.

Ian provided the motivation to abandon the scummy internal slimey water tank that was almost impossible to clean. Using Ian's instructions, I have used a five gallon cooler that we already had but weren't using and modified the valve to include the brass fitting that'll allow a connection to the external water supply line on the side of Ziggy.

With Dale's help from Central Kentucky Hardware and Ian's advice (thanx again, Ian) I was able to complete the modifications and have a posted picture of our "leak check" for you below. It'll be a while before we get to test this out in the field but this project is done. What's next?...

We are still working on menial tasks while the weather rages up and down. Went from 15" of snow and cold last weekend to staring 60F in the eye this weekend. Have been staying focused painting cabinet doors (they were painted white, now they are a lovely minty greeny blue), and making curtains and pillow covers. Pics will come when we get Ziggy Stardust put together again. This is Laura (not Bill).

Well, Ziggy is getting ready to take a huge leap forward in progress. Laura just about injured herself this weekend when she spend about four hours scrubbing the outside of the shell to get all of the mold and fiberglass discoloration off that had accumulated for an unknown number of years.

I have ordered a fiberglass restoration product that has good reviews and is supposed to remove the rest of the oxidation from the shell. Then we'll clean and wax for the coming season.

Also, I have ordered the new sliding rear window as well as the Shady Boy awning for Ziggy. Things are heating up around here as the external temperatures climb into a more comfortable range for working outside. I will be picking up the spare tire from the local tire specialists this afternoon and we've completed a seals test on the new Thetford Toilet so that's been installed in the shower closet.

Camping season is just about here and we're gonna be ready! (two words: BRING IT!)
