Our Scamp at City of Rocks New Mexico 2010.

Yep! Our Scamp at City of Rocks State Park in New Mexico 2010.

About 30 miles North of Deming & I-10 Southern New Mexico. Also about 30 or a little less from Silver City.

Campsite "In the Rocks" kind of:

Paths in the rocks are neat places to explore.

View of the W/E & some full campsites from the Rocks not far from our campsite in the rocks. Never had the desire to use it (a flat area away from the Rocks).

We were returning home from our trip to The Tetons & Yellowstone in 2010. We only spend an overnight. It was one of the first places we camped in the Scamp in 2005.

Haven't been back since. Wanted to do so earlier this Spring & Summer, but things just haven't work out. When we finally get to go, it will not be with our Scamp. It is sold & gone to ABQ.

As the younger folks would say, that campsite rocks!

Do you miss the Scamp much?

To be honest, No, not much. Really enjoyed the Scamp for the 9 years we had it, but it was time to move on. Can't beat the size for towing & traveling & finding sites to fit, but have learned to adjust and spend a little more on fuel.

The wider bed we have now & the roominess of the Lance makes up for the added cost of fuel & I have gotten used to the wider trailer behind me.

We found this State Park in 2009 when we were full-timing in a 35 ft 5th wheel. We loved New Mexico and all of their diversified State Parks. City of the Rocks and it's awesome sunsets! Would love to go back.

Wow! How dramatic! I got stuck in Demming many years ago trying to ferry a plane to St. Louis. I so love the southwest, a beauty all its own. Some day we shall have our Scamp out there.

Nice photos. Have lived 150 miles from this for six years but never been there. Looks like you could get lost hiking among those boulders. Fun. Thanks for sharing.

Ole Al from the Yahoo "Scampers" group? Out west sounds nice but until retirement, doesnt look like I'll get to be taking any of those long-run trips like that.

That would be me. This retirement thing has worked out pretty well for us over the past year and I'd highly recommend it; Would be even better if I could get over this habit of eating three meals a day. Ain't TN about half way to New Mexico from eastern NC?

Great camping spot! We stopped there several years ago when we were staying at the Poncho Villa NM State Park some 30 miles south of Deming, NM.

In those days out-of- state visitors could buy a annual camping pass that was good at any NM State Park.

When the state did away with that, we stopped spending the winters in NM.

Such a pity because we loved New Mexico, but money was tight in those days!

Seems like the annual camping pass for out of state residents has come back.

That is good news to anyone wishing to spend a few months roaming NM. While $225 is considerable more that the $80 we last paid, it's still a great deal for a out-of state camper.

We used to start our winters in NM each year, in north NM at the Navajo Lake State Park in the fall. Then slowly move south as the weather cooled. Great trout fishing on the San Juan River below the Navajo Lake dam.

Most years we would end up near Deming, NM at one of the three NM State Parks. We spent many lazy weeks at Pancho Villa State Park at Columbus, NM, and had many a fine meal at Tillies in Palomas, Mexico.

However, I'm not sure how safe that area is these days.

Good memories...

Thanks for the pictures. We stayed there many years ago and it's a fabulous park. Your pictures bring back lots of good memories!
