Japanese Bigfoots

These Class C and B class were designed in the Bigfoot plant for the Japan Market . Also have many more pics of lots of older Bigfoots. Notice on The Bc Vernon all doors and awning are on the driver side.

Although they drive on the left, Japan allows left-hand drive vehicles, but stepping out into traffic can be a real bummer, hence the change in coach door entry sides. Gardner Pacific also built a number of Sunrader molded fiberglass motorhomes on Toyota chassis for that market with entry doors on the left, but also left-hand drive.
In some right-hand drive countries, like Australia, it's very difficult to get a left-hand drive vehicle permanently imported and licensed.

No problem in Canada with Right hand drive vehicles. Lots of used Japanese vehicles here. Mostly 300Z's and other sports cars. Also lots of Mitsubishi 4 x 4 micro vans.

RHD is no prob in the U.S. either, just look at our soon to be replaced mail trucks, all RHD...
BUT, importing Japanese domestic market vehicles to the U.S. is prohibited, not because of RHD, but because of not being DOT certified for safety, or EPA certified for emissions. BUT there seems to be more than a few RHD Skyline's running around L.A. with BC plates.....

Yes way off topic But the Skyline was the first RHD to come to Canada Now here in BC we have every model u can think of even we tiny work vans , Only stipulation is the year they were made is when they are aloud in BC , Also the Japanese Models have much much more horsepower =, My son had one it was one very fast car. Anyway enough about Japanese cars back to Fiberglass now LOL

Actually there is a problem and a number of provinces are lobbying the government to amend the import rules due to the higher accident risk.

A 2007 study by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) found accident risk for right-hand drive cars to be 40-per-cent higher compared to “normal” cars. A province of Quebec study found a 30-per-cent higher risk of collisions.

I was reading an article in the newspaper in Alberta in December where it was suggested that Alberta may make up some of their own rules on the topic as they have grown tired of waiting for Transport Canada to do anything about it.

For your info.

You can see rules in Quebec for the driver on the right side :

Ministerial Order concerning the use of right-hand drive road vehicles on public highways
