1977 Boler 17' Converter Replacement

Hello all,

Well it looks like my converter has succumbed to a power surge a week ago. I took the front panel off and hit the reset, it made a hum louder than usual and then clicked off. In the mean time, the power it sent though to the lights toasted my LED replacement lights (which I didn't notice till later.) I tried it once more to show someone else what was happening. This time it didn't hum, but started smoking!! Yikes! So I guess the question is, what have all of you 17' owners been replacing them with? It has also been suggested to me to put in a a breaker panel for my plug-ins (120V) and then one line to the battery charger for everything else. Thoughts?
