You have got the idea just fine.
My own thoughts were to get the AL-KO Octagon shocks from Europe so that I could choose the right rating according to color code for the trailer
weight.
I might choose a little higher
weight range since the arm is shorter on the Flexiride than the AL-KO
axle.
I would bet that the tuning would be better than we would get here since it is very hard to get specifications for US trailer shocks.
The Euro AL-KO produces axles, shocks, stabilization bits and complete trailer frames the "caravan" manufacturers use.
