JD,
I see what they're doing. Looks like they are running the shocks in extension during suspension compression. Pulling rather than pushing. They could be valved backwards so they work that way. If you weld the shock mount arms to the top of the trailing arm the shocks would be conventional compression type valved. You would be able to use most any shock then.

You have got the idea just fine.
My own thoughts were to get the AL-KO Octagon shocks from Europe so that I could choose the right rating according to color code for the trailer weight.
I might choose a little higher weight range since the arm is shorter on the Flexiride than the AL-KO axle.
I would bet that the tuning would be better than we would get here since it is very hard to get specifications for US trailer shocks.
The Euro AL-KO produces axles, shocks, stabilization bits and complete trailer frames the "caravan" manufacturers use.

The shocks are available in three ranges

Old Monroe shock kits

Monroe used to offer a shock kit, but no longer does. Here is some info from their old kits if that helps. I haven't attempted this yet and haven't checked to see if it fits my Al-Ko axle.

John,
The Monroe kits success would be based on how well the trailing arm bracket fit the arm. It would rely on a flat parallel surface to mate to. Different manufacturer's axle offerings would pose problems. They had to stock a lot of parts to cover all the needs. Their basic layout looks like it would be a guide to how you could do you own installation with some welding and light fabrication. I just used that layout on my '67 Chevy C10 tug for the rear shocks.
