I have a few questions about my scamp.
(just to remind you, we bought it last weekend from a guy who used the scamp to go ice fishing).

Here is a pic of the heater.
He must of installed this monster himself. (it's hooked to the propane)

We do not plan on keeping it, so now I am trying to figure out what goes in it's place.
2 cabinet doors?
Is there suppose to be a hot water heater under there?
(I wouldn't think so, but now I'm confused)

Also, be sure to notice 1 of the 3 holes used to fish from. HAH!!!
Floor will be replaced next weekend (fingers crossed).

I appreciate any advice.

A furnace is usually mounted in that location, but some have elected to have more storage room and just use warm sleeping bags, or like us, use a Coleman Sport Cat heater (the Black Cat was too warm). A water heater is usually mounted under the dinette seat across from the 10 gallon water tank location. Some elect again to not give up storage space for this, and heat water on the stove. I liked the idea that someone posted that they use a bug sprayer filled with water heated to their liking, and use an outdoor shower/portable toilet enclosure.

that is where Scamp puts a gas smaller heater. the top of the smaller heater lines up with the top of the brown door.

I hope your previous install did not cut into the fiberglass, when you take out the heater the opening should not be open higher than the brown door.

We did not get the heater and have two skinny doors. There is wood glassed in above the doors, between the doors, and on the side of the doors. If your top glassed in wood has been compromised you might want to stiffen that up.

We have considered cutting out the space between the two doors to have one larger door. But, we would still have the stiffness above and to the sides.

We only carry a small electric cube heater. If there is no electricity we try not to be out below 40 degrees because we are old folks. Really don't want a gas heater. Just heating some water on the stove warms the little Scamp up.

Also make sure the PO did not remove the black iron supports between the sink and upper cabinets. They are necessary. Replace with something visually nicer but keep support there.

Joy, there is currently a thread for a 13 scamp 1983 for sale with pictures. There is a picture there that shows exactly what the two doors look like.

If the fiberglass wasn't cut back you "Might" be able to get new doors from Scamp parts. They won't be cheap, but they may match better.

BTW: Did you look under the dinette seats to see if the old doors were stashed in there somewhere? You might get lucky!

Looks like a Blue Flame radiant heater, probably unvented. No reason you can't leave it in there and use it. The advantage of a Blue Flame style heater is when dry camping, it doesn't use battery power.

If you replace it with a new RV furnace plan on spending $500+.

The heater the factory uses will cycle on and off continually and is way to big for the 13' Scamp. That monster looks about the same, as well as needing lots of ventilation. I'd also bet that it was never approved for RV use anyway.

We use a Coleman "cat" heater with prefect results in Scamps, Lil BigFoot & Hunter FGRV's and Sunrader FG motorhomes. Less than $50.

The cutout may not be the size of the whole furnace. Remove the furnace and post pictures of what is underneath. Then we might have suggestions that are better suited to the situation.

As others have suggested where the heater is now Scamp has mounted a much smaller propane heater and there is a door for storage under it. A picture of how Scamp does it can be found on this current Craigslist ad for a 13' Scamp or on Scamps website.

Scamps Parts department will custom cut doors to match your other doors for any size opening. I have purchased some from them and there prices are fairly reasonable.

We removed the furnace this weekend.
Fortunatley, he did not cut into the fiberglass.
Now we just have to replace 1 door. Phew!
