Screen door for Casita

We just bought our first trailer, 1999 16' Casita
Would really like a screen door and awning. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome, Scott! Congratulations on your first egg trailer!

You could probably build your own screen door similar to the old bi-fold style Scamp supplied for years. Forum member Norm (Honda03842) built one for his Scamp, and the design should easily adapt to other trailers. See posts 506-518 in his thread Preparing a 1991 Scamp 16. If you have questions, I'm pretty sure Norm would respond to a PM.

There are many different types of awnings, attached and freestanding. Most manufacturers supply case awnings as original equipment. They're available from several manufacturers and tend to be pretty pricey. Alternatives that attach to the trailer include bag awnings (widely used on tent trailers), rope-and-pole awnings (common on vintage trailers), Shady Boy, and perhaps a few others I am forgetting. A Google site search* on "awning" should turn up many old discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of each type. scott, i built a screen door for my casita 16er. since i'm not a carpenter it took a lot of trial and error but, i would guess i've less than $75 in materials. there's a full description of the project on the casita travel trailer forum. for an awning i use one from busdepot.com. it's sold for use on vw campers but works great on a casita. mine is the large and fill the whole front area. it's a bit of a chore to get up (think a big tent). i can do it solo but a friend makes it much eaasier and quicker. feel free to pm me with questions (i'm currently traveling and it may take a while to reply)

The magnetic closure screen doors advertised on tv work great.
They are inexpensive, easy to remove when not needed and last a long time.
