Back at it with EGG 2

Hi
My name it Town and I have just bought my second Burro. First was a 13' in the early 80's and now a 1987 17' widebody, with many unusual modifications DBPO (done by previous owners). I have started removing anything not bolted in and some that are. Plans are to patch all misc and unnecessary holes, clean up excess glue, and make it a nice new customized 24 year old trailer. There are to many wierd things to cover here so I'll add info as I go. Wish me luck.
PS I'll be asking about a lot of resources, so bear with me.

Interesting few months

Wow, I have finally gutted and repaired almost all of the extra holes DBPO's on the intrerior, next is all new wiring and plumbing, A PO removed the bath so I'll add a custom cabinet for additional storage. I had hoped to be posting this in Oct but I tore my bicep removing the A/C, 3 monthe of surgery and rehab later I am back at it. Lots of holes. I'll post photo's later after I figgure out how.

Red face Your injury

Hmmm.

You tore a muscle. I did also, my supraspinatus.

You don't happen to be on a statin?

I am finding that one has to avoid heavy muscle use when on statins.

It is always something.

This hobby gets expensive when it leads to surgeries. Hope you can avoid such heavy strains in the future.

I formerly had a 17' Burro that, like yours, had been misused (turned into a concession trailer) and had a couple of extra holes cut through it. Stainless steel plates took care of the holes. I'm glad I was not the one to refurbish it... it was much more fun just using it after the rebuild!

Thanks for the support

Not on any drugs other than glucosamine and Vit C. A/C just to heavy for son in law and when I reached over his shoulder and grabbed the a/c to help, he raised up into it and my elbow went to far and tore the attaching at lower end.

Have been learning that gelcoat needs to be thick so you don't sand through. One more time inside and then it is time for wiring, cabinetry and flooring. Also decided to replace the axle and go up to 2500 lbs. Next size changes a lot of things but will be worth it in the end, old axle was 2k max.

Oops there is a little rot where the floor and inner wheel wells meet, I think i'll drill and glass in some rebar and then spray about a half gallon of gelcoat to preserve it for all time, no sanding and polishing to be done here.

The roof was very wavy with the A/C on top and smoothed out when A/C was removed, I am planning to add a stringer, for stiffining, on each side of the roof seam parallel to and about 12-18" off set. This will be 1/2" EMT glassed in and gelcoated to match. I am still deciding how to drain it. Any ideas?

Wow all the interior body work is done, just a few buffs to go. What a pain.

Moving along now and have finished the 120V and 12V rewiring. Decided to add new 30 Amp power center and that required "rip out" all of the old and starting over.

There is a major fibreglass patch (new piece riveted over a large hole) under the sink. Could this be where a water heater used to be.

The rot at the wheel wells is not as bad as originally suspected so the repairs will be easier.

Pics to come as soon as I figure out the new camera.
