I think I get Scamp's logic, though. Glass mat adds strength with less weight, and it won't rot if there's ever a leak.

It also means that there is no frame, and nothing other than thin
fiberglass to hold the screws for the air distribution box (as I mentioned before). Roof A/C's are designed for a framed roof, not a
fiberglass egg-shell. So I don't think it is really the best design but instead it is a compromise. And
leaks might not rot the roof frame (since there is not one) but it will still rot the floor.
So after sealing the holes I had in the roof from the screws, I glassed in a piece of wood for the screws to bite into. That would be the way to do it (IMHO) - thicker
fiberglass AND wood frame.
