Yep, the only info I can find is about the Pla-Cool Evaporative Coolers.

I think I get Scamp's logic, though. Glass mat adds strength with less weight, and it won't rot if there's ever a leak.
It also means that there is no frame, and nothing other than thin fiberglass to hold the screws for the air distribution box (as I mentioned before). Roof A/C's are designed for a framed roof, not a fiberglass egg-shell. So I don't think it is really the best design but instead it is a compromise. And leaks might not rot the roof frame (since there is not one) but it will still rot the floor.

So after sealing the holes I had in the roof from the screws, I glassed in a piece of wood for the screws to bite into. That would be the way to do it (IMHO) - thicker fiberglass AND wood frame.

Becky, my 78 Boler had an AC on its' roof when I baught it, and I left it on for about 2 years and found the roof sagging down about an inch.
I took it off about 18 years ago and roof still has a dip in it.
I am sure that AC units are lighter no-a-days but I think a Fantastic Fan would be a better idea.

I've seen reference to the Fantastic Fan several times. What makes it so special and where can I find more information? Thanks Becky

Boler roof strength?

Fan-Tastic Vent's Retail 12 Volt Fans

They run on 12V, so, unlike AC, shore power is not needed. They move quite a bit of air and are a lot quieter than an AC unit.

I don't think you would find it adequate as an alternative to AC during an Oklahoma (or Phoenix) summer. But for a lot of places in the less humid North and West, it's enough.

That may be true Jon as my Boler when bought did have a Florida sticker on it so maybe that is where it called home before coming to Maine.
