When I did mine, I lifted the shell off. Pulled the frame out and loaded it into the pickup.

I went to the Axle place and they measured it for me. Of course, they immediately noticed that the arm was installed as a "leading" angle as opposed to the normal "following" angle. So, I had mine made in the correct configuration and with a 22.5 degree down angle.

Had a new dexter axle put on mine this summer. The shop sandblasted it, did the recall fix, put a new jack and 2" receiver on it and panted it. They did not change the arm orientation. Does it matter?

Reade, the trailing arm starting angle that you specify needs to allow enough space between top of tire and top of wheel well. Four inches or width of your fist is considered adequate space.
