Glacier National Park Shatters June Attendance Record

Jill and I are back from 10 days in Glacier in early June. Did our part to contribute to this headline, though I think we beat the worst of it. Easy to see why folks call it the "Crown Jewel" of the National Park System. Maybe Congressional proposed budget cuts will help keep folks away.
Visitation skyrocketed in Glacier National Park in June, shattering the previous monthly record and foreshadowing another unprecedented summer for attendance.

Nearly 621,000 people visited Glacier Park last month, roughly 136,000 more than last June, which held the previous monthly record, according to National Park Service statistics. Last month broke the June 2016 record by 28 percent and saw nearly twice as many visitors as five years ago.

That's very close to the population of Vermont. Glad I was here and not there.

Folks want to get there before they have to change the name in the not too distant future.

When I visited several years back, it could just as well have been named "Fogged In and Can't See Past Your Nose" National Park. Good thing someone had painted a mural in the visitor's center or I wouldn't have known what I was missing. Then followed a bicyclist going 10 mph all the way back down the pass. Very brave guy on that bike. Not sure if he had any brake pads left when he finally got to the bottom. Would love to go back sometime - in better weather....

That's well over the population of Wyoming.

We will be headed that way just after Labor Day. Hopefully the crowds will have thinned a bit by then.......

Terry and I were in Glacier in June. Going To The Sun road was closed to autos, but open to hpv's. We rode our trikes to the top and had a screaming time going down with no auto traffic to contend with. It was a cloud-free day, in the 70's, with no wind, and I was riding with my love. Doesn't get any better than that!

We didn't find the park that busy but we were there from June 10 to the 14th. Had a great time!

We have had a either a Scamp or Casita for the past 10 years, but sold the Casita last fall and purchased a 21 RB Cougar sticky. One trip was enough. On our way back home we stopped in Worthington, MN and purchased a 2003 Bigfoot 25RQ in excellent condition. Life is back in equilibrium. The Cougar sold quickly and I'm making modifications to the 25RQ.

Enjoy,

Perry
