It would be nice to have more counter room and a larger closet in the trailer. Could make a bigger couch / bed at rear curve couch sides around forward? Larger bed and more seating. Even that would leave lots of extra room maybe even a bath? We all will be interested to see the revised floor plan you make.

Hi Borden:

Attached is a layout of a newer 17' Bigfoot. I couldn't find an example of an older layout. This will be similar to what we had. Also attached is a rough layout of what we plan to do with our trailer and an exterior view of how it looks today.

Lots of work ahead.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken, you are my new fiberglassrv hero! LOL!

Makes me feel so much better at the prospect of having to rebuild the roof in our 5th wheel.

Keep the info an pictures coming.

Really like the bedroom plan proposed. and also see the advantage of a more square shape on space even in the older design. Also like the added storage you gain.

Hi Liz , Thanks for the encouragement I hope it doesn't turn out to be a zero . It is a lot more work than I first contemplated , but we had a little break and am ready to start again. Can see a small light at the end of the tunnel in regards to bodywork and paint anyways .

Will have pics soon

Thanks Ken, Have a great camping season.

Hi Borden , Sorry for the late reply.

The floorplan is just a concept at this time. I have a friend that works at cardboard box company and they have tonnes of cardboard sheets ( 4x8 ) which go into recycling . He said I could get 10 or so sheets . So I plan to make a full mockup of the floorplan to see how things fit and see if anything has to be changed. I will make sure I take somes pictures along the way.

On the bathroom pictures on your trailer can you zoom out so I can get a better look . It looks interesting .

Thanks

Ken, you have great idea's and a nice start. I like the idea of a mock-up with cardboard, then you can really tell what will work and not. I did that to my front table and kitchen and it kept me from rebuilding a couple of parts. Keep us posted on how it's going. I made it through two years of rebuild by breaking it into small parts and trying to just concentrate on getting just that one part done. It kept me from getting down in the dumps when I started to look at all the work to be done.

New pics and spare parts

I have closed in my front window to help keep the bedroom warmer and make more room for storage. So I will not be using the font window cover any longing , so if anyone in in need of one [ it is in great shape ] make me a offer.

So have pictures of new front end and flooring prep

Ken we are putting a front window in our BF, we want to be able to see all four directions while in the trailer. Especially the tow vehicle which is usually parked at that end. If I was closer I would take that cover off your hands in a heart beat!

I'm enjoying watching this project!

Ken,
I saw this thread earlier and there was something I thought about off an on all day. It bothered me enough that I thought I better say something.

In your post #22 you give a floor plan and the bedroom looks like it has a couple or three windows. In that same post there is a photo where it looks like the front window as well as the left side windows have been closed off. The part that bothers me is how would one escape the trailer if (heaven forbid) one woke up to a fire. A window over the bed would allow one to use the bed as an assist to get to window height and is furthest from the door. The window nearest the door would require something to step on to exit and being nearest the door means one has to move toward a fire when the natural inclination is to get as far as possible from a fire.

Sincerely,
David A. L.

David:

Thanks for your note. The floorplan that I had posted initially was a rough draft. We have decided to permanently close in the front window to allow for storage. All windows, vents and storage compartments have been glassed over to accommodate the new floorplan. Now that I have a blank canvas to work with I can move the windows and vents, etc. to where I want them to go.

Regarding your concern, I have 2 windows in the bedroom. The one at the head of the bed is a window that doubles as an escape hatch which will serve as our emergency exit. The window at the foot of the bed is a regular window.

Thanks and keep those comments coming.

Ken

Stretching a fiberglass trailer sounded very familiar. With some tenacity I found the thread I was looking for... Ken it was YOU and the Surfside. OMG I guess if anyone can do this successfully, it would be you since you've done it before. http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ver-39287.html

But, I have a question... what's the beak for in the front.... a fireplace in the bedroom?

Hi Donna
Yes , I have done it once before putting in a bathroom and shower which turned out ok , but I should have spend the time making the bed bigger.
We found that a good nights rest is sometimes more important than a shower ,especially is you are as tall as the bed is long. The bigfoot is 88 inches wide ,where the surfside was 74inches

The front storage [ beak ] will be storage and hold the dvd player, stereo and have a few cubby holes for books , etc.

Very impressed!
Such a beauty you have created.
What colour are you planning?
Also are you willing to share who is doing the painting for you?
I'm always looking for good local recommendations.
Cheers! Emily
