Finally - stainless steel washers on Parkliner hinges
This was on the bucket list for Parkliner to do in 2014 when we left our trailer there for a week. Among a laundry list of other items that did not get done, this was one of them. There was no way Gail and I could get the door off and back on, so the planets had to align for this upgrade to happen. First I needed a bunch of 3/8" stainless steel washers, the good kind that are not at all magnetic. Got that done a week ago. Yesterday both my younger sons were here, and we got it done. The hinges still need some work to look good, but without my kids' help, this would not have got done. Certainly Parkliner ignored it.

Wow...!!! The washers look good but the rest of it looks like ****!!!
Maybe it's the light or the angle the picture was taken at.....(doubt it)

Those look like expensive hinges. Are those U joints?

Some of it really is the light & angle Paul. I had scraped most of the white paint off the aluminum hinges & it really looks better now than it had. It still obviously needs work, but the big job is done!

From what I understand Dave, they are 3/8 or 1/2 inch socket u-joints, like the kind you use with ratchet sets.

What I did was measure the thickness of the steel washers, then replaced them with the same thickness in stainless steel. If I ever have problems with the hinges being anything other than ugly, looks like Parkliner is back in business under new management January 1. I'll get whatever I need from them.

On the Trillium, the molds provide a common plane for both the top and bottom hinge. As long as the hinges are parallel, things work smoothly. On the Parkliner, the planes change between the top and bottom hinge. The universal joints allow the door to be opened without torquing. Scamp does the same thing with a spring loaded ball. Raz

Well, I don't have a Trillium, so can't comment. Knowing what I do now, if I had my druthers, I'd have an Escape. Parkliner has been a pain since I bought it. We're getting closer to solving problems though, & it looks like this will be our only egg into the future. We're just gonna have to keep our fingers crossed.

No you don't have a Trillium but Roger does. It was his question I was answering. I'd take a Parkliner over an Escape because of the windows alone.
Frank, I bought a new Trillium when they were made in California. For about two years I had nothing but issues including multiple belly band leaks so I feel your pain. But I think the Parkliner is a good design and in the end you'll be happy. Hang in there. Raz
