Rivet caps on a Scamp

Been hanging around this site for awhile and have learned a lot. A couple of years ago we purchased 1991 16 foot scamp and have been trying to get it mostly original, inside mostly done working on outside now. What works best to glue rivet caps that don't have the snap ring on. Our neighbor who is the local Scamp expert says the only thing to use is Silicon. What do the rest think? This is the last thing before sealing. Thanks for any and all info
