Fantastc job. I agree lighter wood works best, especially in a small space such as this.

You do know this is a 10 year old thread?

Robert Johans ran a rehab business out of Bend, OR for a number of years (the Egg Plant, or something like that). This is a customer project from that period.

Since then he spent a number of years on a ground-up design for an all-new molded fiberglass trailer. The design was acquired by a major manufacturer and is now being sold as... the Airstream Nest. The production version lacks some of the innovative features of the prototype- bean counters got involved, no doubt- but it’s still a striking trailer. There is a lengthy thread on the prototype build, which a search on “Nest prototype” should turn up if you’re interested.

I am curious what Mr. Johans is up to now. Haven’t seen a post for quite a while. Can’t imagine he’s just sitting around.

I am aware. lol I still wanted to share my sentiment as I came across his post in my search for boler upgrade ideas.

I see now that, though this was his 'first' trailer camper reno, clearly he was skilled and much of the details of the tasks perhaps weren't so new to him... as they would be for me! Impressive work and final product either way.

The small trailer world is very new to me - my wife and I recently acquired a '77 1300 Boler - so I hadn't a clue Robert was behind the Nest as you mentioned!

Thanks for the reply!

Gorgeous work

These mods are really attractive as well as functional. Thank you for detailing how you kept but hid the structural integrity of the Scamp- I’d read somewhere else that one could hurt the ‘egg’ if we did mods w/o the consideration of structure. Using ply, did it improve the weight vs fiberglass? Again, thank you. I hope to see you on the road and take a look in person.

That would be "sold for," as in past tense. The Nest was discontinued after about a year on the market. Hard to say what they sold for, since they were sold through dealers, where discounting is the norm. I'm going to guess around $45K.
