Where to camp first night after Scamp picked up?

So very excited to be picking up my Scamp the week after next and will be going from the factory in Backus, MN back to central NC and avoiding both Minneapolis and Chicago by going the round about way west then south. I'm looking for a camping site a few hours in that direction. What can you recommend?

If you go south and west from Backus, before too long you will be in farm country. I would suggest going east into the lakes/woods area, tons of camping there and on into Wisconsin. From there you can drop south to I-94 and then take I-90/I-39 straight south from Madison, bypassing Chicago.

Or better yet, if you have the time follow the Mississippi for a while, some very scenic roads along there.

Considering your intended route, Maplewood Sate Park would be a good choice.

As previously suggested, the Great River Road on the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi river is spectacular and I would suggest Wyalusing State Park for beautiful sites on the bluff overlooking Prairie du Chien and the Wisconsin River.

There really are a lot of good choices in the area and I would encourage you to spend a few days exploring if you can.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
