1976 trillium - door pops open

Just wondering what would cause my door to pop open when driving it was locked when we left but seemed to have unlocked itself on a bumpy road. I font notice any door sag at all.
Thank you so much for the help.

Hi, have to ask if the door was really unlocked or just opened on the bumpy road. I haven't had that problem but these TTs can flex quite a bit so a lockset that is warn may not be latching as well as it did. Can you see how far the latch is going past the catch?

Same problem here, it happened once a while in driving, not always though. The cause is door sag combined with loose bolts of door hinges. After take a closed look from inside when door locked, I finally weld a little bracket on bottom of old door frame's bracket and tighten the hinge bolts. The problem stopped since...

We always travel with a bungee cord holding the door shut just in case it should want to pop open. The same bungee cord can then be used to hold the door open when we reach our campsite

Yes, same problem. On a bumpy road I realized I was leaving a trail of MRE's thru the woods! The door was locked as it swung wide, lol! Now we bungee it for travel like Phil said.

Don't know what type of door latch you have, but a trick - we did on the Scamp was to reverse the outside handle. Normally both the inside and outside handles point toward the hinge side, and you push down to open the door. The weight of the handles may be enough to unlatch it when you hit a bump.
With the outside handle reversed it points the other way and counterbalances the inner handle. An added benefit is that if a stranger tries to open the door by pulling down, they will think it is locked. You will have to lift it.

Then you need a different solution. WE had also added a dead bolt to our Scamp.
But did not need to engage it while traveling

I hook the bungee to the door's window crank & to the cooler handle or the cabinet door knob (around the corner).
