My new Casita 17'

Just purchased a 1999 17' Casita Spirit Deluxe from a super nice couple from Missouri. Drove 1335 miles round trip from Minnesota Saturday to pick it up. Original owner trailer, new tires and deep cell battery added March 2012. This trailer is SUPER SUPER clean. Now for the mods to make it my own.

Looks great from the outside, wondering what type of mods you will be making. The previous owners were very considerate by putting on new tires and new battery for you. I bet the inside looks very nice just the way it is.

Will post photos Monday of the inside. Moving kind of slow from a long day of driving on SAT.

Wow, that looks like new. Was it stored inside? Good luck with it. Be sure to join the Casita Forum. Gene has a knowledgeable, mod-friendly group over there.

Drove 9 hrs to MO from MN left MO, took 9 1/2 to get home.

Some mods I will be doing
Refrigerator light
Change all lights in and outside to LED
3rd brake light
Shelves in closet
Battery slide out tray
Master kill switch for battery
Get rid of all P Traps and use HepVo waterless waste valve Sanitary Waste Valve

I am sure there will be many other changes later down the road, will have a note book along to write down notes.

Nice catch! I'm wondering what's with the single propane tank on a 17 footer?

I asked about that and he said they never used that much propane so they took off 1 tank to save some weight.
Also a 1999 Casita never had a roof AC . The AC was in the closet on the right as you come in the door and vented out the front of the trailer on the curbside. He had the factory install the AC on the roof after he had the trailer for a few years.

Nice find Kevin! I dont think you will have any problems with only one propane tank. I only have one on my 16' and although I do cook inside and often run the fridge on propane and the furnace from time to time the tank lasts a long long time.

Nice fInd. Eighteen 1/2 hours driving plus the time with the seller, wow. I think we've seen more Casita 17's on our travels than any other fiberglass camper. There has to be a reason. So what are your plans for the Scamp? Raz

I recommend also doing the gray tank vent mod. It will drastically increase the usable size of the gray tank. You will be working right in that area when you install the Hepvo on the shower drain and the additional parts cost is <$5.

Kevin, casita started putting roof AC's in by the middle of 1999. We own a 99 with the factory roof install at the time of manufacture also ours has the later model decals. Some friends of ours have an earlier 99 and they and they have the front AC but theirs also has the later decals, I guess that was kind of a mongrel year where you could end up with most anything. I do know ours has been trouble free so we may have some repairs or replacement appliances in the near future. You and I seem to have a great model year as far as reliability, Happy camping, I know you will enjoy it, Bill

Will be selling my 13' Scamp after I get it out of storage and take out all my camping stuff.

Bill MacDermod
Is there a drain for the AC some where on the Casita, or does the water just run down the side of the trailer?

Yeah it just finds its way to the belly band ledge and most times when your level it will drip onto the door step, if that happens give the front jack a crank or 2 up and then it will flow back. I drilled holes down through the belly band ledge in the corners to allow draining, that relieves it pretty well.

Do you leave the water heater lit, the whole time your camping? How much water is used before you get hot water to the shower or to the sink?

Kevin, Some folks turn it off, I leave it fired up, mostly because they are a pain to get lit, once you have it lit the burner seldom comes on unless your using it but like overnight in normal weather the pilot seems to keep it warm. As far as getting from heater to bath faucet in the morning I use the hot water faucet to brush my teeth and by the time I get through the hot water has moved to the faucet.
