Adding external storage capacity to Scamp 13?
I'm interested to see (I'm a visual learner) what solutions members have devised to add external storage to a Scamp 13. My primary need is to create storage for electrical and plumbing components - not much weight. I believe the tongue is my best option as I've already built a bike rack for the rear.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I have been able to get most of my set up stuff in this waterproof tool box. I was going to mount it outside but after packing it I decided to use the first out/last in storage method. It just sits in the floor during travel and outside while camping. It holds plastic chocks and blocks, electrical adapter and fresh water stuff.

Take a look at the thread Preparing a 1991 Scamp - page 16 - Norm added small boxes under the trailer for holding small/light items.

I don't know how well these would ride on the back of a 13 footer, but on my Casita 17SD I have a Stow-Away roto-moulded plastic carrier that fits in a 2" receiver that I fabricated and welded under the frame. They also make smaller sized carriers as well. If it sounds interesting to you, here's a link and a few pics of mine.

I just added an outside "Baggage Compartment Door" to my Hunter Compact-II to give outside access to the space otherwise trapped under the dinette seats/bed. All my setup stuff and tools go in there.

Times ten on the suggestion that folks explore this alternative, even on the smallest of trailers...it's surprising how much "stuff" one can cram into nooks 'n crannies once they're made accessible from the outside.
I did this on all four corners of my Trillium.

Tongue boxes are nice.
As in the case of most (all?) Bigfoots, we have one on our 13' Lil Bigfoot. BUT (big but) they add tongue weight when you may not want more tongue weight. Scamps seem to be a little heavy on the tongue to start with anyway. Keep the weight of the box itself in mind.
If anyone knows where to buy a fiberglass one like BigFoot uses, sing out...

On the back of my ParkLiner there is a receiver and I spoke with Chandler the manufacturer and he said its rated for 200lbs. I got a reese polypropylene cargo carrier(about 35lbs), cut about 6" or so off the 2" square pipe for a closer fit and added a truck bed storage box to it. I keep 2 hoses, 2 extention cords, a hose nozzle, and the awning and hardware(tent stakes, the elbow joints ropes etc) in it.
I added my rocket stove for grilling... but in my front shower I carry a 7 gallon jug of water, the B@L leveler and my 90+lb generator... my tongue weight is about 260lbs so its pretty well balanced a little over 10% of my trailer loaded weight. I also travel with a full 15 gallons of water since I boondock. I am thinking about getting a cedar 2x8 and adding it behind the propane cylinders on the tongue so I can lash the 5 gallon jug of gasoline on the tongue vs carrying it in the trunk of my rav4.
There is someone on the casita forum that custom makes trailer receivers if your bumper mount isn't strong enough.

I used a tongue box over top of 2 11# tanks and a battery box. Designed it to hinge at the front and lock the tanks and battery.
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...tml#post133720
Revision 3 would involve some minor changes involving a shorter tongue box.
