Cargo Box on a '76 Boler

Hi,

I'm looking to replace the cargo box that a previous owner had put on the back of my boler. It was made of plywood and the horizontal pieces were rotten (Lid came loose on the Trans Canada luckily it fell into the box).

Here is a rendering of what I'm planing.




The plan is to steam bend some cedar strips so that it'll look like a cedar strip canoe.

If you are into creating one from wood by hand, (read talented in wood working,) it would be a good project. Admittedly, I'm not personally that talented of a wood butcher, so I opted for a pre-made roto-molded junk carrier from the Stow-Away company. I'm sure your craftsman built box will be very unique and a work of art. That said, I do also like having the extra storage capability the box provides, which is especially handy due to the limited storage room in all these small fiberglass trailers, and I wouldn't be without one anymore.

Be careful on placing any extra weight on the back of a boler as it will most likely cause instability . If you look at Ian's box it is on the tounge which Will allow a more stable tow.

Yeah, my wife and I noticed that when we brought the trailer home the first time. We have since learnt to put the heavy stuff inside the front of the trailer to balance things out.

Here is our 19' Scamp with storage & bike rack, the storage sits on a storage rack in a 2" receiver. The storage box is a 5th wheel storage box. The bike rack was custom made in a machine shop. I added the tail lights because the bikes reduced the original lights visibility.

I like Ian's front storage. As it has been mentioned, I'd think twice before putting too much weight in the back. We don't use that much propane and (after I finally get my trailer going) I'll eventually look at a way to use only one propane tank and use the rest of the front space for storage. I wonder if there's a tank of propane in Ian's treasure chest...!

Your picture may be too big for it to download. You may need to "resize" it in order to get it to post. If it is saved as a jpeg file, it cannot exceed 400 KB, and 1600 x 1600 pixels in size.
