Trillium 4500 Renovation

Here's my latest Trillium 4500 Renovation.. I'm getting slower in my old age took it apart 2 years ago and it set in the back yard till this spring.. I bought a piece of land with a 30' x30' metal bldg. on it so now I have a place I can work on it when the mood hits me.. So I started working on it early spring and I'm far enough along now to post some pictures of my progress... Some how I've either lost or deleted pictures showing how it looked before I started...Here's what I've done so far......

Rebuilt the partitions that are enclosing the front bathroom, the existing ones were made with wood paneling and was coming apart.. Never understand why they used wood paneling... I used Fiberglass Reinforced Panels (FRP Panels) shouldn't ever rot.....

Sanded the camper down then rolled on 2 coats of Rustoleum Almond paint sanding between coats, then sprayed on two more coats sanding between coats.. Was going to put two coats of clear on next but after talking to the people at Rustoleum they said if I put a coat of clear auto paint on it the paint would peel... So I sanded it one more time with 800 grit sandpaper then shot one more coat of Almond on it... I think it turned out good enough...

T4500 rebuild

Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures. It looks like it is really coming along nicely. I should really start the belly band on mine, I just hate ripping off the wall covering to get at it. Maybe I can figure out a way to do it all from outside...

From the outside is the "ONLY" way to do it... No need to do anything from the inside... This is my 5th Trillium that I removed the belly band on and all were done from the outside. Usually I do it on the area where the band is located only that way I don't have to paint the camper when done, I just add rubber car trim that is nearly 2" wide over the repairs..

JOKRA...
Here's a link showing how I repaired the belly band on another 4500 I renovated, it also shows how I rebuilt the overhead cabinet with FRP panels doing away with the wood paneling sliding doors... I don't think it shows the rubber trim I put on it but you should be able to order that at a auto parts store............

Super nice job!

Can you post a close up picture of the Trillium logo on the rock guard? It looks really nice.
I need to have mine redone eventually.

Randy,

Your belly band looks great! What did you do to get it so smooth? I have sanded the glass work that I have done. It is now flush with where the edges of the gel coat, on the sides of the belly band. My neighbor, who I have learned so much from, says that I should use Bondo as a replacement for the gel coat over the belly band. I was planning to use Bondo as a filler for the imperfections and pits in the fibreglass, but not as a continuous layer. What did you do?

I used Short Strand Fiberglass by Bondo to fill the gap, I rough sanded with 40 grit sand paper down level with the fiber glass wall then came back over that with Bondo Filler and sanded that smooth then sprayed two coats of a thick grey primer I got at the Auto Parts store (you can see that in the pictures) then sanded that down smooth as glass.. Worked really well....

The closet is in terrible shape, someone glued some sort of carpet in it and it was terrible.. Ripped everything out... going to install luan paneling then cover that with FRP panels.. Need the luan so I can pop rivet some shelves in there without them going all the way through the wall...... Got the sides in, got them braced off till the glue dries and will install the FRP panels tomorrow...Pictures of the luan inside the closet and the FRP panels cut waiting to go in...
