I am saving my pennies up for a truckfridge myself, maybe later this year or early next. I plan on doing a two burner Suburban or Atwood too but that is on the back burner (pun intended). Sounds like you are enjoying your rig!

In my earlier post I mentioned that a few of the wood blocks that I adhered to the shell for mounting the cabinets had broken free during our road trip. This necessitated rethinking how I attached the cabinets to the shell. Since all of the cabinets are installed I've decided to go with a mechanical fastener between the shell and the glued on blocks. If I were starting from scratch again I would do some research into some automotive type adhesives. I think body shops use adhesive to attach body panels. I would think that they may have the holding power necessary.

I'm going to use some 5/16 galvanized carriage bolts to make the connection.

I drilled through the shell and the wood mounting block with a 5/16 inch drill bit. I then took a step drill bit to enlarge the opening in the shell just enough to accept the square shank portion of the carriage bolt. Prior to inserting the bolt I wrapped some butyl around the shank.

I snugged the bolts down until the butyl squeezed out around the head.

Took the excess butyl off.

Ultimately I would have preferred no fasteners on the outside of the shell from both an aesthetic viewpoint and potential source of leaks. Now that I've installed a few they don't look too obtrusive. If and when I ever get the exterior painted they will be even less noticeable.

Finally there about 20 blocks on the upper cabinets in total. I'm not going to bolt all of them. Perhaps every second or third one will be sufficient.

Martin, have you ever looked at "snap caps" ? Pro-Dec.com has many different caps for a number of fasteners, sizes and colors. You'll end up with the same cap look as factory

Thanks Dave. Just checked out that site. Not sure if they have something that would cover the heads of the carriage bolts but they definitely have something to cover the pile of #8 Robertson screws visible inside the trailer. I'll be painting the interior in the spring and that will be handy.

I thought about that too Martin after I hit the send button. Just a thought though, maybe you could use a SS bolt that would fit the larger snap cap than a carrage bolt. Just sayin', before you install the rest of them. Personally, I don't have a problem making a hole thru the shell especially using a bolt as those are easy, as opposed to a rivet, to remove and reseal if needed. One big plus you have going with your blocking install is that if there is any leakage you'll see it pretty quick as it's not behind a covering.

Since we've had some decent weather the last few days I decided to finish mounting the fridge and build a cutlery drawer above it. This will be last work I do before the real winter weather arrives. I also pulled out the axle and will be replacing that in the spring with a new one complete with brakes. Other plans for the spring include a complete paint job of all the new cabinets and the ensolite and a laminate floor. I'd love to repair the body and paint the exterior but that might be a bit ambitious and may have to wait another year.

With plans to rework some of our interior I am so full of ideas now, thank you.

Absolutely fabulous work. I've been meddling with the idea of a total overhaul on my 76 Boler but started off thinking I could do it in bits and pieces. You and others I've viewed show that the best way is to start from scratch. So Thats what I've done and am doing fiberglass work at present.

Thanks for the kind words. The Boler has been a great project. Mine had leaks galore and lots of cobbled together wiring. I decided to gut it and get it back to a usable but not pretty state by summers end. That worked out great. This coming spring I hope to finish off a few more mechanical issues and use it as is for the summer. My 1950 Plymouth has been neglected lately and could use a few $ thrown at it. Unfortunately disposable income is far from limitless.

We'd love to see some pics of your Boler as work progresses. Loads of great info on this site.

Check out some pics in my album. Put out a couple just to get started. Pretty new to this site so I'm not exactly sure how everything goes.

Wow, your camper is amazing.

I have a couple of questions for you.

This one is kind of lame but where did your wife find those bins? Do they have baskets that fit into the tops? Am I seeing that right? They look perfect and I want them.

The second, your countertop trim, is that screwed in? Is that how you attached it? Thanks so much!
