SUPER EXCITED 1981 Burro owners

Hello everyone .

My wife Kate and I (Kevin) have been looking for the right time, financial situation, and FGRV not too far from our home in WYDAHO to present itself. And that time came this past Nov. We are overjoyed and excited about some renovations and getting it all setup the way we'd like to have it. We have also caught on to the fact that there are a lot of repairs that NEED to happen in addition to what we WANT to happen. Stay tuned for more posts about that stuff soon.

Here are the original images from the listing for the 1981 Burro we purchased.

Burro's are cousins to the Uhauls, of which we own one. Nice little campers, and yours looks to be in good condition. What repairs does it need?

Hi Bob and Mary,

I've been reading a bunch of your posts and threads. Thanks for all your input in this forum. I've already learned a ton form you and the others.

The repairs list isn't nearly as long as the what we'd like to do list, Of course.

The first thing we noticed as we pulled into the automotive store to get the appropriate wiring harness adapter to connect to my 4 Flat on the Toyota Tacoma to work with the 6 Round on the trailer was that the toe in on the tires was really bad. After loads of research on this site and the interwebs, I quickly realized that the axle is shot.

Quick list includes:
leaky roof vent
dead battery
axle replacement
some loose wiring
dead CAT heater
missing some original cushions

Otherwise, it's all there and the outside looks awesome for its age.

To fix the roof vent leak you'll probably have to pull it out and reset it using butyl tape. Another possibility, and hopefully not your situation, is that the seam for the shell halves could leak. Had that happen with our Uhaul. Leaks can be difficult to track down the source sometimes. I like Proflex RV sealant, don't use silicone.

Hi Kevin, we have a 1999 Burro that we just recently got that we have so many plans for too.
Quick question for you, what is that next to your side window?

Cathy,

Yeah, The plans keep getting bigger and bigger and...

That item next to the side window is a maxair window vent.
Window/Maxx - Maxxair 00-455000 - Vents - Camping World

It helps to keep dust down and rain water/melt water out of the windows. It works really well for us when we decide to keep the dogs inside and want to keep the windows open without them trying to crawl out.

jen b,

Thanks for the welcoming. We're psyched to be a part of the family.

They are oversized. Great for getting into the backcountry. Especially living where we do in the rural Rocky Mountains. And yes, they are extra big wheels. 27 X 8.5R 14LT BFG Baja All Terrain. It's hard to tell since the axle needs to be replaced, but it also has a 3.5" lift.

Cheers,

Kevin
